Teams that Miami has struggled against all year (NYK, IND, BOS, UTA) are all among the top of the league in FRONTCOURT scoring.
In their last 14 loses including the playoffs, their opponents have gotten an average of 65 points from their front courts. They gave up an average of 57 for the season.
The Spurs are in the middle of the pack in front court scoring at 57. They will get their 18-20 from Duncan, 12-14 from Leonard, 10-12 from Spliter. Where are they going to get the other 20 pts? Diaw and Bonner? I think not.
Lets look at another matchup. Tony Parker has been dominant these playoffs, but the Heat have allowed fewer points to PGs than any other team in the NBA and one of the the best backcourt defense in general.
The Spurs run their offense through Parker and Ginobli, and I don't think they can win 4 games against the Heat like that. They would need Duncan to average 25-30 points and I don't think they will be able to get that from him.

Here is what spurs backers are missing in evaluating the spurs impressivr sweep over the grizzlies: the spurs packed the paint vs.the grizzlies and completely negated the girzzlies biggest offensive advantage, the low post game of gasol and zandolph. they completly sagged off allen and prince. it was an excellent coaching move by pop. the spurs defense will not look so good vs the heat. perimeter defenders wont be able to sag off the miami shooters. the lane will be wide open for miami drives and cuts all day. miami struggles the most vs big and physical teams that can cream them on the boards. spurs have excellent team defense but they are not big and physical like pacers. no one on the spurs can guard lebron (dont fool your self if you think leonard can).
From post#4 - yes, the heat will have lebiatch on parker at times, but not becuase they arw desperate, becuase the key to stopping spurs offense is to contain parker. last year vs okc the series completely changed in game 3 when the thunder put sefalosha on parker. a defender that is quick enough that wont allow parker to blow by him into the key, but long enough to contest those deadly mid-range jumpers by parker.
Spurs bread and butter is multple pick and roll sets.... miamis defensive strength is stopping the pick and roll! Miamis defensive weakness is defensive rebounding. duncan will be solid as usual, but he is not as physical as west and hibbert and wont present the same match-up problems. in fact, bosh will look much better defensively gaurding duncan than hibbert or west, simply becuase they arw similar weights and bosh will be able to hold his ground and has similar length.
As much as bosh drives me nuts with his p*ssy ass play, he will look much better vs the spurs than the pacers - people will be wondering where the hell he came from all of sudden
the x-factor for the spurs is manu. his shooting has been terrible. for spurs win, they need him to play like young manu for 5 or 6 games.

@kevmode - post #6. both pacers and spurs have excellent team defensive concepts. the big difference is pacers are bigger, stronger and faster on defense. regardless of defense, i dont believe the spurs can abuse miami on the offensive boards to the extent that the pacers did. To beat the heat, you have to smoke them on the offensive boards.

This is the same team from last year who lost to OKC in the wcf
and now they have to play the king and crew. I think leonard doesn't have enough weight to keep the king in check did u guys see the king guarding Paul George smh long series for spurs

MIA in 5
didnt look like leflop did that good of a job on Paul G.... could be wrong.. but isnt that why everyone was saying he was blossoming and looking like a superstar.. not sure that would be said if Leflop was doing that good against him.. alot of people are now saying when Granger returns if team stays together they will be bringing the queen and company a lot of trouble next couple of years to come...

This is a GREAT post. Only other thing I would add to this analysis is that the Spurs don't have a shot blocker to protect the rim like the Pacers did. Roy Hibbert was the only reason that series was even close. Pop can't have them pack the paint or the Heat's outside shooters will be deadly. If you extend the defensive to the perimeter it's game over because Bron and Wade slash all day and there isn't a Roy Hibbert on the backline to stop them. Heat ALL DAY.

there's going to be alot of variables in this series from game to game!
-someone mentioned heat are the best pick and roll defensive, now your going against a team that will have multiple screens before a pick and roll
-Dwade legs, he will be defending ginobli, green, lenord all players who run around and he will be useless on offense!
-Lebron has to guard tp other wise it'll be too easy for him, expect to see that in game 2 and onwards
-Coaching, boy o boy biggest adv. there is, pop has a plan against these guys!
-miami will be out rebounded again! also a huge factor will be BORIS DIAW! his ability to handle the ball will stop any full/half court press and if they try and double TP
Pick n roll or pick n pop! miami has to pick their poison!

The spurs beat a depleted lakers team so yeah easy ride there. They beat a young none veteran warriors team. They beat a two man team in grizzlies all easy rides. Please dont act like the spurs havent had a easy ride to the finals.

Love the original post by Chestbrah. In order for Tim Duncan to gather 25+ points he needs an injured Lebron, and God forbid that from occurring. In bob696969's post, a great point was made about Miami's key defense is stopping the pick and roll. If this were to happen, consider the scores by Parker to be less than 18..

You could be right. A Heatles sweep would not shock me. I promise you LeBron will be gunning for the 4-game sweep beginning TONIGHT. Since he wants revenge for getting swept by the Spurs in the 2007 Finals as the leader of the Cavaliers, what better revenge could there be than to put the Spurs on ice in four straight? How out of his mind do you think he'll play in Game 4 if they're up 3-0?
