One of the few angles I have followed over the years is fading the Cardinals against a lefty, and the spot presents itself tonight in great fashion. Having just wrapped up a nine game homestand, and having lost twelve of their last fifteen, the Cardinals now take to the road for Interleague play, where they have had little success as of late. It also should be pointed out that after a hot start, Lohse has pitched pretty well but failed to win his last four outings I believe, and his Interleague record is awful. With the Cardinals struggling, and no Pujols, this Baltimore series just feels like a letdown before heading to Tampa and returning home to a rival Reds club. They face two lefties in this series, the opener and the finale, and Carpenter’s sandwiched in between. I think the first game here is a flat spot, and for an offense that is struggling (especially against lefties recently), I like the chances of the Orioles here. Along those lines, the Orioles have been facing right-handed pitching quite a bit as of late, something like 11 of their past 13 have come against righties, and all three this series will come against righties, before heading down to Atlanta where all three again come against righties. In the game of baseball, rhythm plays an important part, and I’d expect the offense to heat up a bit. Along those same lines, they’re a fresh ballclub. They’ve had five days off in the month of June, so most veterans are fresh, along with the bullpen. I believe the Cards are top 5 in baseball in certain offensive categories, but it hasn’t shown as of late. With no Pujols, and struggling Berkman and Holliday (who are also battling injuries), the offense is average at best. And here, their thrown in the fire against a lefty, in probably their worst stretch of baseball of the year, in a slight letdown/lookahead situation, on the road, facing a pitcher they’re not familiar with at all. They’ve gone out against at least four lefties this year that they weren’t familiar with (meaning, outside of their division or haven’t faced a handful of times), and in those games they were outscored 20-0. Clearly more focus on fading the Birds here with the intangibles at hand.

weeble....read in the general discussions forum where he had passed away from a car wreck a couple of days ago. i had also heard mention of this at another place on the web. i'm assuming it's true and wouldn't think anyone would start a bad rumor like that if it wasn't. that would be awful if they did. maybe it's a lie and i pray that it is. love his insight on games.
