unlike u, i'll wait to call SF pitching great until, when and if, they shut down the mighty bat of the Rangers.
only thing SF team has shown me is their grittiness, team-play and good pitching.
BTW, my money will be on Goliath to win the series.. win or lose.
Ok, well here we go. Since you wanted to bring up the 1/2 punch i will say, yes they were dynamite. With that being said, they also pitched in the same HORRID division you spoke of earlier. Now before you go and say it was a different situation, i looked it up.
In 2001 when the Dbacks won their division with their great pitching ironically they had the EXACT same record as the giants at 92-70. Second place too was the exact same at 90-72 with third place being similar in 86-76 and 83-79. So could it not be argued that this "weak" divison that the giants played in to "pad" their pitching stats is roughly as tough as the one when the Dbacks had their "great" pitching.
however, thats only 2 guys my friend. this is an ENTIRE pitching staff. i will not disagree that Schilling/Johnson wasnt great pitching, but i think at this point were comparing apples and oranges. Im talking a team, as a whole, not just a one/two punch. Interstingly enough Schilling/Johnson werent so dominant when they were young though. Johnson was 49-48 until the season in which he turned 30 and Schilling was 52-52 through age 30.
FYI, Timmy, age 26, has only played 4 seasons and is 56-27 with 2 cy youngs. Neither of your GREAT pitchers even sniffed that through their first 4 years as starters.
