I think forums like this generally look down on touts and the scamdicappers on the internet. I am trying to do somewhat of a survey for personal amusement.
If you had two choices, which would you pick? Pay for picks from some "professional" or pay for a "real" professional to teach you how to handicap?
I know the majority of the people on this forum probably wouldn't pick either, but if you had to, which would it be?

I would rather do a Brazillian Wax than fuck with either of that shit.....
Seriously, what are they going to teach and what tout is in it because they make money gambling....None...If they were so good then they wouldn't need clientele....

Depends on the professionals expertise. There are an absolute shitload of ways to do this thing, most of them the people here would laugh at or be very cynical over

Some people could definitely profit off a professional teaching them lessons in handicapping, but that's as simple as picking up a book or doing the proper research yourself.
I find it amazing how many people who've been betting for a long time have no clue when it comes to building a personal profitable system, or handicapping wisely. I'm not saying I'm an expert but I've met many people both young and old and some don't even track their daily wagers properly into an overall track record of units and don't know the difference between specific bets a Run Line or Money Line in MLB, as an example.
Those followers of the wannabe touts in the Forum are a prime example, too lazy to attempt to work things out themselves, or maybe so addicted to gambling that they only crave that rush and don't see how their wagering methods (chasing, tons of wagers, ridiculous parlays, etc) just dig them into a deeper hole when a smart and controlled system could show them profit in the long run.

People who believe they have nothing to learn from somebody with greater experience than they themselves possess are simply foolish. Ask a true professional what he would give to spend a few hours with a guy like Lem Banker.
Ego and arrogance doom many wannabe handicappers.
Once you think you've got it all figured out, you should go back to Step 1.

do you know how lem banker made his money? He made his money in the old days betting all the big favorites in boxing and middling games. The days when ali, frazier, sugar ray, foreman etc etc etc were fighting. Back then he was decent at sports capping, but today hes about a 50 percent capper.

So if what you say is true, (I leave that up for debate), are you saying he should have bet the underdogs and lost because that was the sharp play?
And as far as being a 50% capper, percentage means nothing. I'll gladly take 50% at +105 all day, every day. Or did you not realize that that is how most of these guys make money?
Professionals also go through dry spells. Anybody who knows anything about handicapping realizes this. So are you saying you couldn't learn anything from a man like Lem? Perhaps you know more than he does and could enlighten us all?
I for one am more than willing to listen and learn from anybody that is willing to take the time to dispense their wisdom.

Cappers are the only guys who cannot swallow their pride and admit someone knows more then they do. This is not about a tout teaching you, but a real pro.

If this was 15 years ago I would take a pro teaching me. But at this point Iam set in my ways. I have a daily win-loss report, I follow different trends and I take a break when its needed. Units and bank roll managment I have down pat.
I can`t believe how many people on this site gamble everyday and don`t know their exact numbers in wins and losses.
Than again I have a 68 year old friend whos been gambling for 40 years the only system he has is if a team wins or losses 6 in a row he bets heavy that they will lose or win the 7th game. Following the streak is a good thing, his other heavy action bet is if a coach gets fired take the team to win the first game with the new coach as everyone is out to impress.

I know guys that made a lot of $$ in the 1960's on fixed AFL games. Not too many opportunities like that anymore. And there were guys betting a ton of money on Larry Holmes and he had a pretty good run.

Trust me on this, iam friends with and used to work for a guy that was very close friends with lem. He used to tell me and a few others stories about lem all the time. Of course lem shouldnt have bet the underdog and lost, my point was that 20-30 years ago the favorites cleaned up in boxing almost every match. It didnt take any much capping ability, instead you just had to have the balls to lay the big prices which lem used to do. Yes he ade money middling and scalping, but as far as pure handicapping winners, hes really not that good. His plays are out there on the web, go see for yourself. Am not saying guys couldnt learn things from him, just that there are much better cappers out there.

exactly times were differnt back then. Wasnt holmes like sixty something and 1? all the fighters used to have records like that back then. Guys who werent afraid to lay the juice every fight made a killing.

The problem I have with most of these guys is everyone is always "on fire". I mean give me a break. If you listen to the guys on radio like Trushel and Sevransky they are basically using the same information that we have here on covers to break down plays. They have no additional edges over any studious covers poster who does his/her due diligence on a game. I also don't think you can consistently beat the game making plays everyday which is another thing they all throw at you. Playing everyday you are going to run into luck situations both good and bad more often than you need to that will detremine a games outcome that has relatively little to do with handicapping. Covers is decent at showing the cappers last 10 or so plays so you can monitor what is going on somewhat past performance wise.
