Earlier Saturday night, CBSSports.com published an unsubstantiated report that former Penn State coach Joe Paterno had died. That mistake was the result of a failure to verify the original report. CBSSports.com holds itself to high journalistic standards, and in this circumstance tonight, we fell well short of those expectations. Full apology

Completely wrong thing to say here powerade, the mans only mistake was not knowing exactly what happened when that weasel McQuerry couldnt man up and tell the old timer what horseing around really meant.

Powerade might be a lil harsh, but lets keep it real. Do you guys know anything about Happy Valley?? Paterno ran everything up there, 30 something years and he didnt know Sandusky liked boys, Cmon. The bottom line the Paterno name is tarnished. As far as Powerade being a moron, he is not, just keeping it real. Who ever turns the cheek on boys getting molestered is a piece of shit. If I coached for all those years, hell I would have a winning record. Paterno will be remembered for this scandal not his wins, take that to the bank.

There are certainly many roads to travel on this story.............who knew what when and for how long? It will take much time to get to the final story................

Oh for the day when technology allows us to slap people through the computer. RIP Joe Pa. Probably didnt handle the situation exactly the way he should but to make comments like that right after his death shows your character Powerade. Gl 2 u douchebag!
I guess your allowed to make comments like this since you dont live in a glass house, right?

Hey man you have to remember for some people sympathy goes out the window when you are dealing with topics such as child molestation. I mean Powerade isnt saying anything diff from what people were saying when the story broke about Joe Pa knowing about the scandal. Why should he change his stance now.

How come when someone dies, they are all of a sudden, "such a good person", " a person of great character"? Not everyone who passes is worthy of living in the 1st place. Read the last line again. He did not STOP A CHILD MOLESTER.

I said he probably didnt handle the situation correctly but comments like "rot in hell" and "fuck that asshole" makes it seem like he was the one molesting kids or the one witnessing it. He made a mistake (FROM WHAT WE KNOW) of not following through making sure the incident was fully reported and handled, but IMO this mistake made him lose his will to live because he realizes now that kids lives were ruined by a man he employed.

You guys just dont get it. Its clear you havent been to Happy Valley. If you have kids, I know if someone told me that someone was molesting kids, I wouldnt care if it was my brother, I would try and really hurt them and I would be the biggest snitch in the book. Joe ran everything in Happy Valley.

I don't agree with several posts here. I don't think we have all the facts.
Let's think about this hypothetically.
You are the manager of a
business and report to a board of directors and the CEO. An employee
walks into your office and tells u exactly what the grad assistant told
Paterno. Not knowing what to exactly to do, what to believe or how to
handle it, you report it to the Board of Directors and the CEO because
in your mind, they are more equipped to know how to handle it and to
know what legal and corporate procedures must be followed. Then the
Board of Directors and CEO bungle the whole thing other them removing
the culprit from being allowed on Company property. Does that make you,
the Manager who reported it to your superiors wrong or a criminal? I'd
say not.
Paterno admits in hindsight he wishes he did more. He probably should've, but from that fact pattern, I don't think he did
anything tremendously wrong here. He didn't have all the facts when told the story. He didn't walk in and see Sandusky in the shower. He had one grad assistant telling him something, but you can't just take out a shotgun and blow someone away based upon what one person says he saw. There's something called due process. Penn State University is a state school and as such, procedures and due process need to be followed and people are innocent until proven guilty.
Too many people seem to be treating Paterno like he was Sandusky or equally culpable. It's become more a story
about Paterno than Sandusky and it's absurd.
It's great that some of you would take out a baseball bat and beat someone "accused" of sexual molestation. I would beat someone with a baseball bat GUILTY of child molestation, but wouldn't rush to judgment to do so until I had all the facts.
Paterno might have called all the shots when it comes to running the football program but this matter was clearly bigger than him and even too big for him to know how to deal with and handle alone. Legally, he did what he was suppod to do. He reported it to his superiors for them to investigate and handle.
He reported it to the President of the School and the Board, who have lawyers on staff and know how to handle it. They screwed up. Until we have more facts, I am not so sure Paterno did anything so wrong or handled it so differently that many of us (including me) would've handled it.
I am sorry if I offended anyone here. Child molestation is intolerable but I do not see anything in what we now know that shows me that Joe Paterno is a criminal. I don't see anything that shows me he tried to cover it up.
It's very sad and Joe Paterno deserved a lot better ending and legacy!!!!!
