*watch out if you like the Tigers here...leaned that way myself.....but with both coordinators leaving for (lesser) jobs.....Malzahn will take a pay cut............Roof bailing for the DC job at UCF ...wtf.....combined with the loss of their best player....> this one becoming Virginia or nothing.....UNDER....might be the way to go
The impediment to action advances action - what stands in the way becomes the way.

I would imagine GM will not call plays in bowl game....(since it sounds like he's ready to get the hell out)...
*a play on Auburn seems extra dicey to me... in that I would think these bowl practices will be geared more to get ready for next year...and not so much for Virginia *think more spring stuff than bowl prep...

This should be interesting as now Alabama,Florida, and Auburn will all be looking to hire an OC.
Funny how Gus went from being mentioned LY for the Maryland and Vanderbilt jobs and now he is settling for Arky State. Did Archie and Ole Miss even give him a look?

Just saw this. As a Vandy fan, I'm glad that he turned down the Vanderbilt job. Thumbed his nose at a chance to head coach at an SEC school and settles for Ark St. Brilliant!

Smart move. He wants to be in Arkansas and will win at Arkansas St. He'll jump at the first real head coaching job in that area in a few years and the pat cut will not affect his families ability to live a nice life. He made the right move for him self...

Auburn homers will of course paint this as a "feel good" story....and no real evidence otherwise.....so OK
However....this being a WAGERING FORUM.....a more "critical analysis".....is the only way to go *we will see soon enough if there was in fact a rift between Malzahn and Chizik.....if he coaches in the bowl...you can assume things not so bad...AND if Auburn runs basically the same offense ...next year .....ditto
***At this point...we have to assume things not so great....and Malzahn getting out while he can....(before his stock drops even further)...after all....he was VERY picky before ....turning down 3 mil/yr or so at Vandy.....and Maryland too it seems .....so now he's all fired up to go to the Sun Belt?...replacing the guy that got the job he shoulda got?.....

Malzahn is one of the smartest people in the coaching business. He picks his spots for a reason and nothing is done without it being part of his master plan.
IMO could not win at Vandy or Mary but found a soft spot at Ark St to showcase his Offense. Sorry totalguy but Vandy will never be competitive in the SEC.
From a financial standpoint I will be riding Ark St games over the total next year all season long. I smell ez$, not as easy as when he first started at Tulsa but it will take a few games for the totals to get where they should be.

I was actually about to make a very similar post, but no need, your spot on. Vandy is a grave yard. He extended his head coaching in mant years going to Ark. St where he will win a few years and would have been fired about the same time at Vandy. Tift or not as has been said, I for one could not care less. Auburn is loaded with talent and even with Malzahn and Roff leaving, it will be another top class and Auburn is about to get a whole lot better consistently. We all have our opinions, but the fact that Auburn now has three of the best classes as a whole on anyone's level and this year will be four makes Auburn very danderous next year,. The schedule will be tough as it is for all SEC teams, But AU will hire very good replacements and compete for the West title most every year starting next year...

P.s...It's the long run and longevity that he so clearly maneuvered himself into. Three years of winning at ASU before a HC job opens up in his neck of the woods about the time Vandy would have been firing him as they are a football coaches grave yard. He will make way more doing this then getting fired from Vany in a few years...And by the way, I rarely spell check so alot of my words have to be deciphered...

Yeah ridiculous. Turned down 3mil and now accepts 850k!?
You don't understand how Auburn works. Malzahn taking the Arky State job simply means he's being groomed as Auburn's next head coach. Chizik will be gone within 2 years and Malzahn will be named the replacement. That's how it works.

Choosing to live in Arkansas...Never a "smart move". Ask your Family if 2.15 Million to relocate out of one of the nowhere states is worth it. If they don't slap you for asking, well then you must be in Arkansas or South Dakota or somewhere.. Places where intelligence is a rare commodity

Looking back now, the vast majority of Vandy fans are glad that Malzahn turned down the job here. Even given the choice today, we'd choose Franklin over Malzahn. He's the perfect fit here. Hard to imagine Malzahn being able to do what Franklin has done in less than 1 year at Vandy with the same players that went 2-10 in back to back years.
Vandy football is clearly on the rise. We'll see how high it peaks. i wish Malzahn luck at Arky St but I'm glad he's not here at Vandy.
