Boom get ur kleenex ready for Sept 1st..same ole same ole Clemson..8-5..9-4..at best..Clemson starts 0-2
Auburn is NOT loaded at running back. They don't have a single pro-style RB on the roster. This is one of Auburn's weakest positions. I thought maybe Corey Grant might turn out to be a stud, but he's performed so poorly in camp that he's been relegated strictly to special teams. The only SEC size (caliber) back Auburn had on the roster was Jovon Robinson who has now been declared academically ineligible due to a forged high school transcript. Surely you aren't talking about 175 lbs Onterio McCalebb and Tre Mason when you say Auburn is "loaded" at running back. If so, that deserves at least 3 rolly heads.
I am really not sure what you are seeing in this team. I am following their camp assidiously, and the news is going from bad to worse by the day. If I were an Auburn fan I would be hoping for a terrible season so they can bring in Booby Petrino next season. Trust me when I tell you that is already in the works.

Elite 11 does qualify as an SEC caliber QB. The only problem is Zeke Pike has been kicked off the team and will never take a single snap at Auburn. Please tell me you already knew this???

I know you do. And I think we'll probably be in agreement in that we both think Auburn will lose that game too.

@jimmy,Im fully aware about Petrino..we are gonna find out how good Chizik really is but when u have a National Title u are just in a diff level.Thats just a fact of life.Pike is fucking idiot..I was out of country for a week when they booted him.I knew he was sent home..next man.I just dont know how u can pick a team to be worse than 8-5 when everybody is back and redshirts from a top5 recruiting class.the works..its not near as close as u think and I dout ur sourcrs are better than having the business building named aft them.

This is an Auburn/Clemson thread where the original poster specifically asked for opinions on the game. Because this is my second favorite game of week 1, I obliged and gave my opinion. But now that this thread has not turned into an Auburn hugfest, you and the original poster have apparently gotten your sensibilities ruffled.
I have not bet this game yet, and I'm certainly open-minded about it. But so far all I've heard is that Auburn is "going to surprise some people." Well please feel free to educate your Covers brethren as to why you think that is so, because I can assure you I don't want to part with my money.
I made a boatload of money beating on Auburn in the national championship game against Oregon, and again in the Chick-fil-A bowl against Virginia last season even though most Auburn supporters on Covers tried to dissuade me from the bet. So I have no problem whatsoever betting on Auburn if I think it's a winning bet. The problem is I have not heard one thing in this thread or elsewhere that would lead me to believe Auburn is the correct side in this game. In fact quite to the contrary.
Here are some direct quotes from offensive coordinator Scott Loeffler after their first scrimmage.
*** Loeffler said the OL is doing a good job but they're still "YOUNG" and learning.
*** Loeffler said the QB's still have some work to do. He said he saw some mistakes that are normal for "YOUNG" guys.
*** Loeffler said there were some standouts at WR (didn't name any) but they need to be more consistent. They are "YOUNG" at the position.
*** Loeffler said Jonathan Wallace managed the huddle well but is "YOUNG." He said he was inconsistent.
***Loeffler said Frazier was inconsistent. All the QB's made mistakes typical of "YOUNG" players.
Do you recognize a pattern here???
Here is a link to the video from his press conference if you don't believe me.

Here's what Auburn beat writer Phillip Marshall said about Loeffler's performance at the press conference.
"I like Scot Loeffler, and he's a fascinating guy to talk to one-on-one, but I've never heard a coordinator say less than he did after Wednesday's scrimmage".
Another Auburn beat writer on the local radio station described the first scrimmage as follows:
1. The defense is thin, their having problems with their assignments, and their tackling was atrocious.
2. The offense line play was awful.
3. Mosley has a shoulder injury and Frazier still has done nothing to separate himself from Mosley. He went on to say "that tells you how bad their QB play really is. They don't have an SEC caliber QB on their roster - period."
The upshot of the first scrimmage through the eyes of the Auburn coaching staff is that they are "YOUNG," inexperienced and inconsistent.
Evidently Auburn has found the fountain of youth on the Plains because every year we hear from the coaching staff how "YOUNG" they are. The bigger question is why, with all of their recruiting success are they still so "YOUNG," and why is their roster so anorexically thin??? The answer is because, like Zeke Pike, virtually all of the blue chippers they have recruited over the last several years are no longer on the roster for one reason or another. Here is the list I came up with:
Harry Adams
Da'Shaun Barnes
Dax Dellenbach
DeRon Furr
Raven Gray
Cameron Henderson
D'Antoine Hood
Reggie Hunt
Marcus Jemison
Derrick Lykes
Philip Pierre-Louis
Spencer Pybus
Jamarcus Savage
Brandon Smith
Eric Smith
Vance Smith
Freddie Smooth
Christian Thompson
Justin Albert
Barrett Trotter
Andre Wadley
Derek Winter
Dontae Aycock
Terrance Coleman
Robert Cooper
Andre Harris
Josh Jackson
LaVoyd James
Izauea Lanier
Tyrik Rollinson
Reggie Taylor
Joel Bonomolo
Ed Christian
Jessel Curry
Michael Dyer
Antonio Goodwin
Shaun Kitchens
Dakota Mosley
Ladarious Phillips
Jeremy Richardson
Thomas O'Reilly
Aubrey Phillips
Mike McNeil
Jonathan Rose
Zeke Pik
So yeah, recruiting rankings are great, but how do those ranking help win football games when those recruited are no longer on the team??? Moreover, can you name any other program in the nation that has suffered this type of attrition rate??? I certainly can't. That is one of several reasons I described the state of the Auburn football program as a "tire fire" in post #5.
I get it. Auburn is "YOUNG," inexperienced, inconsistent and the trees are dying, but how is that going to translate into me winning money betting on Auburn???

No offense, but this ^^^ is why the books clean up on the public.
Quick question: How does West Virginia's offense have anything to do with Auburn's defense???

Jimmy- thanks for all the input you have provided in this thread. This is one of the games I have been looking at as well. The key factor for me is the departure of Gus Malzahn. I truly believe he was the real head coach of Auburn the past couple of years. I also agree that Bobby Petrino will be the HC at Auburn within a few years. We will see how Chizik is thought of after Auburn loses badly to LSU, UGA, and Bama this year.
