Pick 'n' roll: Wednesday's best NBA bets

Philadelphia 76ers at Toronto Raptors (-5, 201.5) odds provided by logans

While the Toronto Raptors continue to plan for the future by dumping cash from their salary cap, they’re actually making Raps bettors a bundle lately covering three straight and five of their last six.

Their latest victory was easily the most impressive as they downed the Boston Celtics 102-101 on a pair of late free throws from Amir Johnson, while Andrea Bargnani led the club with 29 points.

What made the win even more surprising was the fact that the Raps were playing shorthanded after sending Jarrett Jack, David Andersen and guard Marcus Banks to the Hornets on Saturday for guard Jerryd Bayless and Peja Stojakovic.

"When I got fouled I knew already I was going to make the free throws because I was hitting them all game," Johnson told reporters. "My (confidence level) was definitely up."

That’s exactly what Toronto coach Jay Triano is looking for with his young Raptors. Toronto may be heading for yet another losing season, but they’ll play hard looking for jobs.

We like them to keep the winning streak going against a Philadelphia club that’ll be playing the second half of a back-to-back.

Pick: Raptors

San Antonio Spurs at Minnesota Timberwolves (+8, 213.5) odds provided by logans

Sometimes a talented team just needs some time to get used to one another. The San Antonio Spurs are proving to be a perfect example of that.

Last year the club was inconsistent as they integrated Richard Jefferson, Antonio McDyess and DeJuan Blair into the lineup. This year is a completely different story as the Spurs have jumped out of the gate with a 12-1 record straight up while going 9-3-1 against the spread.

San Antonio picked up its 11th straight win in a back-and-forth battle against the Orlando Magic 106-97 as a 3.5-point favorite. A lot of things are going right for the Spurs including their outside shooting. They hit 12 of their 19 trey attempts against the Magic and are now shooting better than 44 percent from outside the arc on the season.

"Both teams, for a stretch there, it was like a three-point contest and no one was going to give in,” Spurs coach Gregg Popovich told reporters after the game. “That was pretty incredible. It was a heck of an NBA game."

Look for the Spurs to continue their winning ways against the lowly Timberwolves. Minnesota just doesn’t have the defense to hold San Antonio in check.

Pick: Spurs

overpay, You love the headlines dont you? I sometimes look into the media playing a part in the game. I mean lbj cares about his image of winning and losing, so betting for a close game in the heat game is my pick. I got heat 4 and ml Good luck

Cavs looked like garbage last night, but usually play Bucks tough at home. Going with CAVS and the points. Liking Toronto-6, and the UNDER 204.5. Finally in early NBA, I'm cheering for Orlando, but think Heat cover with the 4.5. GLTA

Miami 1st 1/2......+2......Class in session......ring ring!!!.....actually...........I am one of those people who like to play the games I like to watch......but i'm getting better at playing these types of games(although adjustments are needed)......I used to watch a game and lose it and say to myself, "I played the game right and lost by one point and if I could do it all over again I would make the same play".....and you know what.....I would do it again and lose........my point is this...if you are lose 10 games in a row your a great progastenator....you just need to do the opposite and figuire out what you are doing wrong!....my pick will probably win but the knowlege is worth way more anyways!!!! Good luck to all!!!!!!.......oh yeah....amost forgot.....why Miami?....this one is just a gut feeling.....Miami's backs against the wall....everything is going wrong with their season so far.....the rollercoster is about to come off the tracks!.........my gut feeling says this....Miami comes out like a caged Lion and eats the Lion Trainer(dwight howard).....Headlines should read like this.........."MAGIC ACT SOLVED BY HEAT!" in the first half......but i'm not sure about the game.....the games headline might read......."HEAT FOOLED BY MAGIC!"

gdaymate New york @ bobcats nov 23 2010: Out of the gait: new york is 9-5-1 ATS and Charlotte is 6-6-2. I like buying three points. So 10 percent of their games are right on the number. The past five times in Charlotte the games have been close except for one two years ago Charlotte won by 11. Last year at Charlotte, Charlotte won by two in overtime and by 7. The seven point loss was a comeback. Charlotte was down 8 going into the fourth quarter. Last year New york started duhon, chandler, david lee, Jeffries, and Harrington with gallinari and larry hughes off the bench (hughes wound up finshing the season at charlotte-- now he’s out of the league, I believe). Charlotte started. Felton, Jackson, Tyson chandler, Gerald Wallace, and diaw with flip murray, nazi mohamad and Augustine off the bench. Hence, they’re difference clubs. Tyson chandler’s a nice pick up. Kwame brown is a stiff. Sean Livingston has been surprisingly adequate. Felton has changed squads. Gallinari is a better player. And stoudamire is not to be discounted. Starting turiaf, an unselfish but intelligent player is a great move on diatoni’s part. I’m not really breaking it down that great. It’s just the teams were evenly matched last year and new york’s talent level is vastly improved. Only one of their five new york’s five starters is starting anywhere in the league. That’s david lee. I’m looking for a close game. But ya never know!

GDAY Mate. this is how i analyzed the orlando @ the spurs before the game a few days ago. this is my eggzact post. then i'll write up my analysis of the bobcats-newyork game. Spurshosting magic. Capping. Last year tony parker didn’t play in either game. Magic won the first matchup on national TV. Spurs were on the second half of a back to back and looked old. Duncan’s knee was stiff. Antonio Mcdysse started at center. The second meeting the Spurs were on a back to back (though the spurs had won 14 to 16 going into the game). Ginobli had 43. The previous year, two seasons ago, Orlando took both games, winning a close one in January at san Antonio by 7. That was the GREAT Magic team that went to the finals. Hedo was at his apex. San Antonio started Matt Bonner at center. Roger Mason was their starting guard. Analysis: this is the deepest, healthiest team San Antonio has had in three years. Orlando is damn good! It will be a humdinger of a game. San Antonio-Orlando games historically aren’t very close. Seven’s the closest in the last ten meetings. So ya gotta pick the winner. Lineup analysis parker versus Jameer (slight advangate San Antonio, but debatable), Manu versus old Vince (solid advanatage San Antonio) Dwight versus Blair (BIG ORLANDO ADVANTAGE), Jefferson versus Lewis (debatable; call it even. Lewis had a good game at Indiana. So we’ll say he’s hot). Duncan versus Quinten Richardson, a guy who was traded eight times in the summer of 2009 (BIG SAN ANTONIO ADVANTAGE). Bench: SA: George Hill, BONNER, mcdysse, Gary-- who?-- Neal. Magic: Pietrus, Duhon, Gortat, Bass, Reddick (who’s off). (advantage Orlando). Therefore, San Antonio has the starter advantage. Orlando the bench. Close call. Who wins. The big three with Jefferson over Dwight with bonner and george hill. If Dwight doesn’t kill’m or some odd one doesn’t go off, San Antonio should win. GREAT GAME. final score san antonio 106-97

Miami will miss haslems 11 points and 11 rebounds he had in game one versus Orlando. Orlando impressed me at San Antonio. I was glad I had the spurs. The master of panic was the difference in that one. Lest we not forget that Eric spoelstra has lost the meltdown. But I'll lay off cause Wade mAY show up.

G'Day all........struggling to find rythm of late so feel free to fade.......Bobcats line looked a tad high when it opened but has been rock solid right throughout despite public support (and why not?) for Knicks.......good record at home v NYK......looks the right spot for Bobcats to me.......haven't pulled the trigger yet and would appreciate others thoughts........good punting all

i got a little lucky yesterday with detroit, new york and indiana. i think we now know indiana is much better than they were last year. there's an emergence of brandon rush, roy hibbert, hansborough replacing 90 year old jeff foster off the bench, dunleavey healthy, collison an amazing pickup (with the old vet posey) and the maturity of tj ford. oh, and danny granger, their all-star. tonight i'm calming down. cause i know when i get lucky and pick three outright, don't go after it too hard. i like the knicks again +5.5 (i buy three; cause i'm a wuss). stoudamire played 30 minutes in foul trouble. knicks lookin' to go 500. back to backs favor the team that lost close. i know. BUT 5.5 POINTS. also i like oklahoma city to beat dallas. i'm with ya on that one mr. whitejack. good luck gents. and, yes, orlando's so obvious i'm laying off.

I KNEW THINGS WERE GOING TO BE CLOSE YESTERDAY...CAVS DIDNT GET THE MEMO...THATS WHY I JUMPING OFF THAT TRAIN WRECK AND JOINING THE DEERS OR DEER? DEER...BUCKS -1.5 < 186. +1.5 IS VERY GENEROUS FOR THE CAVS WHO LOOKED LIKE MY FROSHMAN BASKETBALL TEAM LAST NIGHT. PROVE ME WRONG CLE. GONNA STICK WITH THE NETS +11.5 > 188. IN THE PAST THIS MATCH UP IS LOPSIDED, NETS KEEP IT CLOSE, LOSE BY 8. MIA + 4.5 > 187 MIGHT GO MIA ML HERE. THEY NEED TO PULL IT TOGETHER! MIA LOOKED GREAT VS ORL THE FIRST MEETING, NOTHING CHANGES TONIGHT. OKC -4 < 197 2 TEAMS GOING IN OPPOSITE DIRECTIONS, THUNDER END THE HOME STAND ON A GOOD NOTE. CHI +3 > 210 BULLS PLAYED WELL LAST NIGHT, HAVE PLAYED ALOT OF DIFFICULT TEAMS TO START & PLAYED VERY WELL. ON THE DOWN HILL OF A MONSTER ROAD TRIP. 2NIGHT PHX, DENVER & KINGS...SWEEP THE NEXT 3?

Saw the Hawks/Nets game coming a mile away....line was way too low and stunk. Glad I layed off it. Parlayed the Lakers and Dallas moneylines for a nice chunk of change as my only play last night. Although I picked the Knicks and Pistons w/ the spreads....was too much of a wimp to put action on them. Tonight I like the Raptors - agree with Covers' pick/analysis (for once). Philly's ona b2b, Raptors on somewhat of a roll winning their last 3. Also like the Magic - Miami's struggling, minus Haslem now, I think Orlando will come out furious about the last time they played. And lastly, take the Spurs - they've been $$$ ATS this year and are playing an inferior T Wolves squad. -7.5 isn't too many points to lay (I think). I'm buying it to 7 and crossing my fingers. GL all

I am not that sure with utah... the reason why hornets were very close with sacramento is that that sacramento played very good defense last 2 games and reason why they lost with clippers is that they were back to back with jarret jack who dont know how to play together...and paul passed bad in last hornets chance.Have utah prooved they can play good against good defense ? Lost against spurs but win against orlando who was struggling. I think 1 day is enought for hornets to regain confident from previous game and put 100 % on their defense against utah. They will be very hungry cuz of that + they wana revenge against utah because utah beat them last 3 times chris paul didnt play.4th game paul played and they beated them.Im taking hornets.

i watched both of those hornets games (sac & clippers) they did not look good, i don't know if it had to do with that trade but they certainly did not look as ferocious as they did earlier in the season. On the other hand, Jazz's last two did look good. I'm going with momentum, CJ Miles is a difference maker off the bench that Hornets don't have.

Mia@Orlando, the game I've been waiting for. It's revenge time and Vegas is slow to put up a number as of 8am est. The line should be 5 1/2 but we should find it much higher. Look for Orlando to show Miami who's house their in.

i gotta take Jazz @ home. Hornets didn't look so hot last two games. I'm also going to take the Warriors, I think they are due... I like Mavs as underdogs... Look for Grizzlies to play another strong game vs Pistons off a back to back... I love fading Miami so I'll go with Magic coming off a well-played, tough loss to Spurs... I'm gunna take Knicks with the points in charlotte, felton has a big game.
