actually, having thrown just 98 pitches, Lackey should have been given at least 1 more batter. Francona panicked. It is not like Bautista hasn't been hitting homers off of everyone. And yes Papelbon was awful. He said he had been feeling out of it all day...something that he should have perhaps conveyed to Tito. This was the at least 12th time the BoSox had lost a game they led by at least 2 runs at some point and the 4th or 5th I believe they have lost having led after 8. The Yankees record when leading after 8? Something like 61-1 or some other ridiculous number. Fact is, heading to Texas, this was a KILLER! Could have gained a half game on the Rays. I doubt the Yanks will lose to Bruce Chen so 6 behind NY after tonight. Hopefully get 1 in Texas and finish a rather difficult 10 game trip 5-5. Fact is, Boston SHOULD have the pitching advantage the next 2 days and since Dice K was not so good his last time out all signs point to him having a good outing Sunday. An on the verge of cashing in their season Angels team comes to Fenway Tuesday and there is no reason Boston should not continue to dominate them. Pedey might be back next week and miraculously, through all the injuries, teh Red Sox are still within pissing distance of the playoffs. GO BOSTON

Ramirez is another one I hate to see come into a game. As difficult as it is to admit this season is over. Too many injuries to overcome. I mean seriously, when was the last time a Boston catcher was on 1st?

I am a HUGE Red Sox fan and I was just looking at some things. This game does not fall in the category but they have lost 13 games this year after having led by 2 or more runs. That is not going to get it done in the AL. As for Okajima and Delcarmen? These 2 need to go. Why was Bard taken out? Where is Bowden? I am getting sick of watching these 2 buffoons come in and have NOTHING! And I do not want to hear about how Okajima "saved" the game the other night with 2 scoreless innings...you led bu FIVE to the bottom of the 9th. Out of every 5 outing for these 2 you get 1 good 1, 3 bad ones, and 1 where they get NOBODY out. I would have rather seen Papsfor a 6 outer even though he usually has trouble getting 3. With this bullpen, their only chance is to get allof their injured players back and hope the starters can go 8.2

I have been kicking ass in BJ lately so I took a flyer on a parlay today Milwaukee/Florida -1.5/Tampa -1.5/Philly -1.5/St. Louis -1.5/Toronto/LA Dodgers $50/$2445 Now granted there are still 3 games to go but I would have been in a position to do some very nice hedging as the night went on guaranteeing some winnings. Fucking Hoffman! This was the 3rd and last time I am going to let him and that genius Macha screw me

Pills, down 3-0 to the Yanks in 2004....3-1 to Cleveland last year. In 2004, down 3-2 heading to NY, last year down 3-2 heading home. I am going to state the obvious here and say tomorrow night's game is the key. Red Sox win and I think they would be favored to win game 7. It isn't like Beckett has not shut down an opponent before.....in the post season....facing elimination....lol...as I alluded to in my "Bos-TB game 5" write up

lol Not even. While I could say I was trying reverse psychology, I won't. It was over in my opinion...and probably alot of other peoples opinions as well. I am soooo sorry Red Sox and Red Sox Nation brethren. I quit on them and lost faith. I can't sit here and type that I honestly believe that they can comeback AGAIN but 7-0 down with 7 outs to go facing elimination? W O W ! There are worse fates in life than down 3-2 on the road with Beckett and Lester waiting in the wings. I will be watching intently tomorrow night until the last out or at least until Timlin is brought in....lol. How about NOT falling behind 5-0 by the 3rd for a change? Could this have a Cub-like effect on the Rays? Here is hoping : ) Thank you Red Sox for giving me a reason to look forward to Saturday evening. Or should I say a reason BESIDES Mizzou-Texas

while I do not think Becket, Lester and Dice K have been horrible, they have been hittable....and the Rays, who currently know no fear, have hit them...HARD! Any mistake made by a Boston pitcher has been HAMMERED somewhere, usually over a fence. I am very worried about the Red Sox future playoff wise. I'll take their starting pitching against any other team in baseball. These last 3 games are an aberration and not a true picture of how bright the Red Sox starters star is. I am VERY worried about the middle relief. Age at catcher, age and injury history in right field and at 3rd. Otherwise a solid lineup. All that being said Toronto is going to be good, the Yankees will make moves, Detroit and Cleveland will be back, Minnesota and Chicago should be decent, and you have to think Texas, Seattle and Oakland will improve. So looking at all of those teams along with Tampa and Anaheim, it looks like 9 teams battling for 4 playoff spots. I do not like those odds

is tip your cap to the Rays. CLEARLY the better team. 3 straight games at Fenway jumping out to a 5-0 lead? Impressive indeed. To ANYONE out there, including the most diehard of Red Sox fans (of which I am one), who think this game is NOT over I have 7 words for you.....YOU ARE OUT OF YOUR FUCKING MIND! While it WILL BE baseball's worst nightmare ratings-wise, it should be a very entertaining world series. And I leave you with this advice, take the over....lol

ALSO, Josh Beckett in his last 2 game 5's with his team down 3-1? 2003 against the Cubs, at Wrigley, 9 innings pitched, no runs, 2 hits, 11 k's, 1 walk, 115 pitches, Florida wins 4-0. Last year, in Cleveland, 8 innings pitched, 1 run, 5 hits, 11 k's, 1 walk, 109 pitches, Boston wins 7-1. I know he has been horrid in the playoffs this year but given THOSE TWO performances in MUST WIN situations (the one against the Cubs on 3 days rest) don't you HAVE to send him to the mound tonight?

I thin Francona should follow Maddons lead and pitch Beckett tonight and save Dice K for a possible game 6. Dice K UNDEFEATED on the road this year. He tends to put ALOT of guys on base and the way the Rays have crushed the ball in Fenway it could get ugly and out of control fast. Beckett is OVERDUE for a good game IF he is healthy, which he says he is. IF Boston were to win this game, then Dice K in game 6 coming off his dominating performance in game 1 could possibly give the Rays a bit of apprehension.
I also would bat Pedroia leadoff since he OWNS Kazmir put Crisp in the 2 hole for possible sacrifices or hit and runs to move Pedroia along. Then perhaps Youk 3rd, and Bay 4th to start the order with righties or switch hitters. Ortiz 5th because even though he is struggling, he can still change things with 1 swing and this would ensure Bay getting some good pitches.
But what do I know.....lol.
I do not think the rally from 3-1 is coming this year but as a true
F A N I am hopeful.
GO RED SOX!

whichever one of these morons that said this game is not over, was sadly mistaken. Not only the game, the series. Can MLB handle a Phillies-Rays world series? EGADS! lol

this game is so much like last night's game it is scary...except I see the Rays getting to 15 and someone on Boston, my pick is Ortiz unless Francona pulls him and every other starter, swatting the meaningless 3 run 8th inning homer.

someone please correct me if I am wrong.....The Red Sox pitching staff currently can not stop giving up runs and the Red Sox offense is on the back of a milk carton. Can anybody give me one good reason to watch the probable coronation of the new swinging dicks of the AL East on Thursday night? The REALLY scary part is the Rays are VERY young at almost EVERY position AND have some incredibly talented and still young arms. That being said and the fact that Toronto will be improved and you know the Yankees will make MAJOR moves, are we seeing the Red Sox in the ALCS, or perhaps even the playoffs, for the last time for a few years?

they are in DEEEEEEEEEEP shit. I honestly think this series might have ended when Francona brought Timlin (and sure defeat) in on Sat. night. The Rays got a little (more) confidence and a win under their belt and, though I hope I am wrong, are playing like world champions. Yes Boston came from 3-1 last year to beat Cleveland but as everyone knows, the Indians were chokers led by CC (COLOSSAL CHOKER) Sabathia. I do not think these Rays, who are undoubtedly VERY good, know enough about what they are accomplishing TO choke....lol....and good for them. The Red Sox offense is completely in the tank (I will give credit to the Tampa pitchers) and even though Dice K, Beckett and Lester could very well pull off an EXTREMELY UNLIKELY trifecta, I believe everyone reading this knows better. It's like this BoSox, rally from 5-0 this game or make tee times.
