There has never been a more pivotal time for sports bettors in Canada and many from the provincial lottery sports wagering public don't even realize it.
Legalized single-game sports betting is just a Senatorial rubber-stamp away from becoming a reality, meaning bettors would no longer be subjected to betting on a minimum of two or more games when they place their wagers.
The elected Members of the House of Commons have already spoken. They unanimously passed Bill C-290 late last year - a move that has guaranteed passage of a bill in the Senate in every other instance in Canada's 146-year history.
But political maneuvering from the pro sports leagues and misguided rhetoric from back benchers has cast doubt over C-290. As a result, it looked as though the bill would die on the table without a vote.
Momentum is gaining once again for the bill thanks to a Senator spending scandal and it's time for sports bettors and those who value individual rights to act.
