Florida Gators junior forward Will Yeguete will undergo arthroscopic surgery Friday to remove loose bodies in his right knee and will miss the remainder of the regular season.
Yeguete had been dealing with tendinitis in his right knee for the last several weeks and further injured the knee during the Gators’ 80-69 loss at Arkansas Tuesday. The team hopes he may be able to rehab and play in the SEC tournament.
Yeguete is the team’s second-leading rebounder (6.3 per game) and is an instrumental player on defense for the Gators, who love to implement the full-court press.
Florida is already thin at the forward position due to the injury to Casey Prather (ankle) and will most likely have to turn to its freshmen to fill the void. Yeguete missed the final nine contests of last season because of a broken foot. The Gators lost four of their next five games without him, but did recover to reach the Elite Eight before falling to Louisville.
Florida plays host to Mississippi State (7-14 SU, 6-11 ATS) Saturday.
