It’s a bird. It’s a plane. It’s a solid wager to become the highest-grossing film of 2013!
It doesn’t have the same ring to it as the well-known Superman cheer, unless you’re holding a ticket on Man of Steel to become the big box office winner this summer.
Oddsmakers at PaddyPower.com have Zack Snyder’s re-imagining of Superman, which opens today, at +162 to earn the title of 2013’s highest-grossing film behind fellow superhero flick Iron Man 3 (-350), which has already raked in an estimated $1,197,907,000 worldwide.
William Hill books in the UK also had some fun with Man of Steel, most notably British star Henry Cavill (that’s right, Superman is an Englishman). They priced Cavill starring in the sequel before 2020 at -300 and not staring at +225.
Cavill is also on the oddsmakers’ short list for possible James Bond replacements, whenever Daniel Craig is ready to hang up his martini. William Hill has moved Cavill from +1,000 to +2,000 since winning the role in Man of Steel.
