CAMP vs WAKE Preview
Coming off a 1-1 performance at the Baha Mar Championship in Nassau, Bahamas, last week, Wake Forest will return home to face Campbell on Tuesday night in Winston-Salem, N.C.
The Demon Deacons (4-2) dropped an 84-83 heartbreaker to then-No. 15 Texas Tech in their tournament opener on Thursday. Myles Colvin then hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give Wake Forest a 69-68 victory over Memphis in Friday's consolation game.
"This was a great team win," Demon Deacons coach Steve Forbes told reporters afterward. "We found a way to win. ... I thought our team did a really good job executing late."
Under Forbes, who is in his sixth season at the helm, Wake Forest has four consecutive winning seasons, including 21-11 last year. Their two losses this season have come by a total of two points against two ranked teams, and the Demon Deacons are 3-0 at home.
Juke Harris, who posted double-doubles against both Texas Tech and Memphis, leads Wake Forest with averages of 20.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.2 steals per game.
Tre'Von Spillers had a game-high 24 points against Memphis and fed Colvin for the game-winner. He is averaging 15.5 points and 5.8 rebounds.
Colvin is averaging 12.7 points, while Mekhi Mason is at 11.2 and Nate Calmese is contributing 8.2 points and a team-high 5.7 assists.
The Fighting Camels (3-3) began a new era when former Florida assistant John Andrzejek was hired as head coach. He helped guide the Gators to a 36-4 record and their third national championship in school history last spring.
"We are going to run our program, stick to what we believe in, and deal with whatever comes from that," Andrzejek told collegeinsider.com before the season. "I think the results are going to be pretty good."
Andrzejek's squad knocked off UT Arlington 71-67 on Friday. DJ Smith, who leads the team with 22.0 points per game, had 20 points and six rebounds. Dovydas Butka added 17 points and nine rebounds.
