Jets 30, Falcons 28: Nick Folk's third field goal, a 43-yarder as time expired, lifted visiting New York to the upset of Atlanta.

Rookie Geno Smith threw for 199 yards and a career-high three touchdowns and completed all four passes on the final drive to put the Jets (3-2) in position for Folk's winning kick after the Falcons (1-4) erased a 13-point fourth-quarter deficit on Matt Ryan's 3-yard pass to backup tight end Levine Toilolo with 1:54 to play.

Ryan finished 36-of-45 for 319 yards and two touchdowns and Jacquizz Rodgers ran for a pair of scores for Atlanta, which has already lost more games than it did the entire 2002-13 season. But Smith responded with four completions and an eight-yard scramble to pull New York within one game of the New England Patriots for the AFC East lead.

The Jets turned a fumble by Ryan into a 36-yard field goal by Folk in the final minute of the third quarter and extended the lead to 27-14 on Smith's 1-yard pass to tight end Kellen Winslow with 12 minutes left. The Falcons responded by driving 80 yards, capped by a 19-yard scoring run by Rodgers on a draw play to pull within 27-21 with 8:03 remaining.

Smith erased an early 7-3 deficit by connecting on scoring passes to Jeff Cumberland and Jeremey Kerley in less than a four-minute span in the second quarter for the Jets, who also stuffed Rodgers on first-and-goal at the 1-yard line on the final play of the half to maintain a 17-7 lead.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Falcons TE Tony Gonzalez finished with 10 receptions for 97 yards and joined Hall of Famer Jerry Rice (274) as the only players in league history to catch a pass in 200 consecutive games. He also passed Marvin Harrison (14,580) for sixth place on the all-time receiving yards list with 14,607. ... Jets RB Mike Goodson, seeing his first action after serving a four-game suspension for violating the league's drug policy, had 32 yards on three carries. ... Falcons WR Roddy White, who has been battling an ankle injury all season, injured a hamstring early in the fourth quarter and RB Jason Snelling suffered a concussion.
