Recap: Texas A&M 48, Southern Methodist 3

Texas A&M 48, Southern Methodist 3: Redshirt freshman quarterback Johnny Manziel accounted for six touchdowns to lead the visiting Aggies to their first win of the season.

Manziel went 20-of-36 for 294 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for 124 yards on 13 carries and two more scores.

Mike Evans led Texas A&M (1-1) with six catches for 123 yards and both of Uzoma Nwachukwu’s catches were for touchdowns. The Aggies outgained SMU (1-2) 605-309.

Zach Line rushed for 104 yards and Garrett Gilbert passed for 203 yards but the Mustangs were held without a touchdown after scoring 76 points over their first two games.

Manziel made his biggest plays on the run, juking defenders on the way to 48- and 15-yard touchdowns. He also made throws under pressure, throwing on the run for a 36-yard score to Nwachukwu and spinning out of a defender’s grasp before hitting Kenric McNeal for a 42-yard third-quarter touchdown.

GAME NOTEBOOK: SMU senior defensive end Margus Hunt, who broke the NCAA career record for blocked field goals last week, blocked his seventh career PAT in the loss. He has 16 career blocks. … The Aggies, who tallied a NCAA-leading 51 sacks last year, have 12 in two games. Damontre Moore had two Saturday and has five on the season. … Texas A&M starting running back Christine Michael and safety Steven Campbell were suspended for the game because of a violation of team rules.
