Two sportsbooks refunded bettors because of a controversial UFC fight, and a massive pre-match odds shift has raised suspicion in the industry.

Key Takeaways

  • UFC has not confirmed any wrongdoing, but Isaac Dulgarian is no longer working for the professional MMA company.

  • DraftKings told customers that it is aware of integrity concerns.

  • Dulgarian’s odds as a favorite plummeted right before the fight.

Caesars Sportsbook and William Hill announced after featherweight fighter Yadier Del Valle submitted heavily favored Isaac Dulgarian in the first round in Las Vegas on Saturday that losing customers would receive a cash credit within 24 hours.

Dulgarian was reportedly released by the UFC on Sunday morning.

The promotion released a statement Monday afternoon, adding that the UFC takes the "allegations very seriously."

Yahoo Sports reported that the betting line on Dulgarian plummeted from -240 to -160 just before the fight. A first-round finish prop bet also went from +850 to +475 in a hurry. DraftKings reportedly pulled the market entirely from its site.

DraftKings acknowledged that the sportsbook is “aware of the situation” and would provide updates if needed.

The sportsbook told a customer on X that it could “confirm that there were integrity concerns,” but DraftKings was not refunding wagers at that time.

"DraftKings is aware of potential concerns related to the Isaac Dulgarian vs. Yadier Del Valle event from this past weekend and is actively investigating the matter. We are working with integrity monitors and will provide updates to customers as they become available," a DraftKings spokesperson said in a statement to Covers.

BetMGM had Dulgarian listed at -250 on Saturday morning. Dulgarian was getting 55% of the handle, but Del Valle had 68% of the tickets. Dulgarian by decision/technical decision (+325) was one of the top five most-bet props at BetMGM heading into the UFC Fight Night card.

“Trash” performance

The fight ended 3:41 into the first round when Del Valle got Dulgarian to tap out during a choke hold.

No one on the broadcast alluded to anything controversial about how it ended, but UFC analyst Michael Chiesa questioned Dulgarian, calling his performance “absolute trash” on a post-fight show.

“If you're on the main card of a UFC, it's one thing if you kind of get punched into submission, but a lot of Day 1 mistakes,” Chiesa said on the UFC post-fight show. “You can even hear on the broadcast like, ‘What is this guy doing?’

“I'm sitting here on the pre-show hyping you up as a guy that can go into the top five and win fights, and it doesn't even look like you can fight someone that's in the bottom of the top 500. I've got to be honest here. That was an F- performance.”
