Key takeaways
- Ohio sportsbooks accepted 22.8% more bets compared to June 2024.
- May and June revenue, which made up much of the NBA Playoffs, surpassed $160 million.
- FanDuel and Fanatics Sportsbook recorded high monthly holds.
The Ohio Casino Control Commission reported Thursday that online and retail sports betting operators generated $586.3 million, a 22.8% increase from June 2024. With mainly the NBA Finals and MLB to push action in June, the amount wagered dropped expectedly by 20% and was the lowest year-to-date handle.
Revenue spiked an even more impressive 46% to $74.95 million, thanks to a 12.8% hold that’s the highest win rate 2025 produced and a massive improvement over last June’s 9.7% hold. It’s also operators’ best win rate since September 2024.
The NBA Playoffs' final two months led to more than $160 million in profit for Ohio sports betting operators, as well as a pair of holds over 12%. June's operator-friendly results put $15.3 million into the Buckeye State’s coffers, increasing the year-to-date tax haul past $90 million.
Spending down
Ohio online sportsbooks accounted for $74.9 million of total revenue and $567.4 million of the amount bettors wagered in June. Promotional spending, not deductible from taxable income, dropped by over $3 million in May to $17.2 million in June.
Retail operators generated a $18.9 million handle, a 34% month-over-month increase. Behind another $1.1 million in revenue, land-based casinos enjoyed more than $2 million in profit over the past two months.

Struggling in Ohio
A month after enjoying its best month ever in the Buckeye State, Prime Sportsbook took a step back. The online operator reported a $484,143 loss in June, wiping away a large portion of the $1.09 million it made in May.
Prime, launched in neighboring Kentucky this week, finished in the red in half of 2025's first six months. The book ranked ninth among Ohio operators in June handle.
