Hold stays high
December marked the fifth consecutive month with a double-digit hold and the eighth out of the last nine.
North Carolina sports betting operators’ 12.2% hold was a big leap from the 5.7% win rate produced during the same month in 2024.
The latest hold was also the second-highest generated in 2025, and there have only been three better win rates turned in the 22 months of online wagering.
North Carolinians won back $581.3 million of the December handle, their lowest return since August. Promotional wagers dropped from $22.3 million in November to $14.8 million in December. The $3 million in canceled/voided bets was also down around $400,000 from the previous month.
