The final week of April went the Empire State’s nine online sports betting operators' way.
Key takeaways
- A big week of NFL draft, NBA and NHL playoffs, and MLB ended in the sportsbooks’ favor.
- Handle reached $500 million for the first time in three weeks.
- FanDuel enjoyed a 12.2% hold from a nearly $200 million haul.
The New York Gaming Commission reported Friday that mobile sportsbooks generated a $526.2 million handle during the week ending April 27, a 13.9% week-over-week increase and up 19.3% from the same week in 2024.
The 2025 NFL Draft, NBA and NHL playoffs, and a full slate of MLB games helped fuel a handle that reached $500 million for the first time in three weeks. Operators feasted on the betting uptick.
New York online sports betting's $56.9 million gross revenue is the highest weekly haul since the Super Bowl and spiked 110% from the previous week. Sportsbooks made over $50 million in income for just the second time in the last 11 weeks, mainly because of a good run by bettors during the NCAA tournament.
The 10.8% hold produced during the week ending April 27 is just the third double-digit win rate New York generated over the last two months.
Double-digit holds
FanDuel saw massive week-over-week gains in late April. The online operator reported a $197.6 million handle, up from $180.7 million during the previous period. Gross revenue went from $11.4 million to $24.1 million in the latest week.
It was also the second time over the past 11 weeks FanDuel made more than $20 million in seven days, thanks to a 12.2% hold.
DraftKings also enjoyed a good run, with its second week of over $20 million in gross revenue since late January. The online sportsbook’s handle rose 20% from the previous week to $181.2 million. An 11.3% hold was the first double-digit win rate in April.
Fanatics' profit soars
Caesars finished third in New York for the week with a $41.1 million handle. Fanatics Sportsbook was fourth at $40.3 million, while BetMGM was last in the trio at $36 million. Fanatics used an 11% hold to haul in $4.4 million, a significant 266% week-over-week increase and ahead of BetMGM ($3.5 million) and Caesars ($1.5 million) during the week ending April 27.
ESPN BET turned in a solid week, hauling in $1.2 million in gross income from a $13.8 million handle. BetRivers made less than $900,000 from its $10.3 million haul. A week after finishing in the red, Bally Bet produced over $237,000 of profit in New York for the week.
