In a last gasp of sports betting fun before baseball is the only game in the state, March Madness helped the Maine sports betting operators rebound from February’s monthly decline.

Key Takeaways

  • Maine’s handle rose 20% month over month
  • Revenue fell that same time, all coming from DraftKings
  • Oddfellah is still open for business but struggling to grab market share

The Maine Gambling Control Unit (MGCU) announced that the state’s three sportsbooks took in $49.5 million in bets last month, nearly 20% higher than February’s haul.

However, the increase in action did not translate to revenue. Despite around $8 million in more wagers, the operators' adjusted gross revenue came in at $4.2 million, around $1 million less than February.

The main culprit was DraftKings, who are by far the biggest sportsbook in the state.

To put that in perspective, they reported $42 million of the $49.5 million total. But on the revenue side they lost $1.2 million compared to the previous month. This is also the lowest revenue in 2025. The tax bill for March came in at $400,000

Retail still struggling

Being the lone retail betting bar, in theory, seems like a great opportunity. But Maine’s low handle, smaller population, and also Oddfellah's unclear license status, do not make a recipe for success.

Oddfellah’s Sports Bar received $490,000 in handle for March, which is the highest since they launched late last year. But in the grand scheme of things their action was roughly 1% of the total bets in Maine. On the revenue side March is the 2nd straight month that Oddfellahs lost money (-$4,000).

Operator Betting Handle Gross Revenue
Caesars Retail Sportsbooks $490,000 $-4,000
DraftKings Mobile Sportsbook $42 million $3.6 million
Caesars Mobile Sportsbook $7 million $587,000
Total $49.5 million $4.2 million

DraftKings still the bet getter

DraftKings can certainly file Maine in their camp.

In 2025 more than $8 out of every $10 wagered are being made with DraftKings. Caesars has made a nice carve out and there have been positive news over the past few months. March, for example, was Caesar’s best month this year
