Drake has shared several posts on social media outlining his gambling activity, including showing $800,000 worth of wagers on Game 6 of the NBA Finals and his gambling losses over the prior month. After losing those bets, the Canadian rapper shared a post calling gambling addiction “a lie.”

Key Takeaways

  • Drake lost $800,000 betting on the Oklahoma City Thunder to win Game 6 of the NBA Finals.
  • The rapper also revealed that in the last month, he has spent $125 million through Stake and lost $8 million.
  • Following his losing NBA Finals bets, Drake uploaded an Instagram story calling gambling addictions “a lie” to prevent players from winning money from sportsbooks.

The "Nokia" hitmaker revealed through his Instagram story that he placed two bets on the Game 6 NBA Finals matchup between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Indiana Pacers. The first was a $200,000 bet on Oklahoma City to win the game by six to 10 points, including overtime. The second bet was a $600,000 wager on OKC to win the game, including overtime.

The Thunder went on to lose Game 6 108-91, sending the NBA Finals to a winner-take-all Game 7.

Shortly after revealing his bets, Drake posted another Instagram story captioned, “Gotta share the other side of gambling ... Losses are so fried right now. I hope I can post a big one for you soon cause I’m the only one that has never seen a Max these guys Max once a week."

This included screenshots of his gambling at Stake, showing nearly $125 million in bets and more than $8.2 million in losses.

The following day, Drake followed those posts with another Instagram story, this time a video captioned, “When I realized that gambling addiction is a lie made up by platforms like Stake to prevent you from winning their money.”

Drake has been a brand ambassador for Stake since 2022 and has participated in several marketing campaigns for the gambling brand.

Drake’s sports betting continues to capture headlines

Drake’s sports betting has caught the public’s attention so much that a superstition has spread about his gambling habits called the “Drake Curse.” The Curse suggests that any team or player Drake bets on will lose, as OKC did after Drake wagered $800K.

A look at Drake’s betting history shows that not all his bets are wrong, as does the fact that he gambled $125 million in the last month with only $8.2 million in losses. However, some of his largest bets have gone bust.

Drake placed a $1 million bet on the Toronto Maple Leafs to beat the Florida Panthers in May, where the Panthers came out victorious 6-1. He also bet $210,00 on an NFL playoff parlay, which included Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson scoring a touchdown. As Jackson failed to score, Drake lost the wager.

Only a few months ago, Drake’s fans were taking to social media to express worry about the star’s health after a video emerged showing Drake in a white robe while playing video slots amid a chart battle with Sabrina Carpenter. Many suggested the rapper was struggling with a gambling problem. Dismissing gambling addiction will only add fuel to those concerns.
