All four major U.S. professional leagues converge for the “Sports Equinox” on Monday.

Key Takeaways

  • MLB’s World Series, NFL’s MNF, 11 NBA games, and two NHL contests intersect Monday.

  • Wagering was up 15% at BetMGM during last year’s four-sport day.

  • Sportsbooks are offering parlay boosts and promotions for the Sports Equinox.

Game 3 of the World Series between the Blue Jays and Dodgers, the NFL’s Commanders-Chiefs showdown on Monday Night Football, 11 NBA games, and two NHL contests make up one of the most popular sports days on the calendar.

Sportsbooks are preparing for heavy action on the four-sport event that began in 1971 and typically takes place in October. BetMGM told Covers that the online operator gets 15% more tickets on the Sports Equinox compared to other days, excluding the Super Bowl.

According to BetMGM, MLB, NBA, and NHL saw noticeable spikes during the Oct. 24, 2024, Sports Equinox compared to the week’s other six days. The NFL saw a 10% decrease in tickets, but handle dropped only 5% with just the one MNF game compared to the rest of the week.

The four-sport day is part of a huge month of wagering. BetMGM also reported a 32.4% increase in bets and a 27.3% spike in handle last October compared to the average of the other 11 months in 2024.

Sportsbook promotions

The surge of action isn’t just related to the number of games and unique betting opportunities. Sportsbooks also celebrate the Sports Equinox with various parlay boosts and specials.

BetMGM is offering a 20% parlay boost on bets with at least three legs. FanDuel is running promotions for customers based on the big four sports.

DraftKings has an “All Sports Stepped Up Parlay” promotion that has each leg getting a higher boost.

ESPN BET is giving customers a $5 bonus bet. Caesars is offering four-sport Equinox parlay specials.

bet365 is giving customers 50% profit boost and several special markets. For example, “bird attack” allows bettors to wager that the Blue Jays (MLB), Pelicans (NBA), Hawks (NBA), and Penguins (NHL) all win Monday with a payout of +1,600 for “yes.” Customers at bet365 can also get in on markets that include shutouts and overtime involving all four sports.

Opportunities galore

The most critical game Monday is in Los Angeles, where the Dodgers are looking to break the 1-1 World Series tie as -190 favorites. The home team is getting 66% of the handle but just 45% of the tickets at BetMGM.

In the NFL, the Chiefs are 10.5-point favorites over the Commanders. With favorites going 10-2 so far this week, Kansas City will likely be a hot pick in Sports Equinox parlays. The Chiefs are getting 74% of the spread handle and 92% of the moneyline tickets at DraftKings.

There are five NBA games with a spread of less than three points, including the Lakers hosting the Trail Blazers as 2.5-point underdogs. Portland is getting 88% of the spread handle, but the Lakers have taken 63% of the early tickets at DraftKings.

In other NBA action Monday, the Cavaliers go to Detroit as 2.5-point favorites, the Spurs are -5.5 at home against the Raptors, Boston is a slight underdog at New Orleans, and the Thunder and Warriors are both 8.5-point favorites.

It’s a light night in the NHL, where the Penguins are the only active team with a winning record. Pittsburgh is getting the majority of the bets and money as a +105 underdog against the St. Louis Blues. The Senators are healthy -175 favorites at home against the Bruins, who are getting 57% of the money at DraftKings.
