He shouldn't be worried about Nadal...he should be owrried about anyone in the top 100 with that set...wow

Dear Fed,

I guess when you are the best player ever and want to throw a match you do not need to put in the same level of effort in making it realistic as, say, a Flipkens. And when you do it lack of money is not the reason but perhaps the excess of money already made and accomplishments reached are....

This was another tank job by Federer, just like vs Del Potro in London, vs Baggy in IW and vs Berdych in Miami.

I mean Gulbis after getting broken for 5-5 was going to the chair, not sure if you guys noticed, he had no idea what the score was, he thought it was a changeover, a lost man on court. Wasted 6 match points and yet Federer lost 2 straight games after that.

Of course in RG his approach would be different however the chances he wins 3 sets against Nadal in the same match (if Federer gets that far...) are very slim.
Hopefully we can get some good odds on Nadal there.

At this point I am worried about his future a tiny bit. Not much, as this is his usual MO, but man has he looked ugly in his last three losses and even some of his wins the last month. I have never seen his game this far off for this long. I am a fan of his so this troubles me.

Lets face it guys...I don't think he cares that much about tennis anymore. He has all of the money any of us could ever want or spend in10 lifetimes. He is married and has children and is the best his sport has ever seen.

He has won all of the majors...and has the won the most majors.

He has a gold medal from the Olympics

Just didn't see any fire in him that last set...in years past he would have been fired up after breaking for 5-5...in this instance it seemed like he was thinking "damn...i want this to be over"

When he served at 5-5 in the 3rd Gulbis was done...he was mentally spent...only thing Roger needed to do was hit the ball back and he was fine...but missing 13 1st serves in a row? I have never seen him do that...can't really think of the last time I saw anyone miss that many in a row.

Have to agree that it appeared to be a tank...not sure why...think he could use the court time really. If not he is going to be out early at RG if the match-ups don't treat him right.

then he beat the crap out of andy murray in the usopen final.

I saw an interview with Jack Nicklaus once... a guy asked him what the most diffcult thing was being a professional golfer. His answer was being away from his children. He also said it was tough at times during a round to not think about his kids...especially if it was their birthday...or if they were sick or if they had something important going on that day.

Roger now has a family... that changes alot of things...instead of training all of the time like he once might have...he is going to spend time with his children..and is going to enjoy the whole dad process.

Not saying thats why he lost today...I am saying thats why things aren't comparable to years gone by

Well, definitely he doesn't try in these minor tournaments, this is for sure, so as a general rule I tend to agree with you.

However, clay Tennis is a completely different beast from any other surface.
Unless you have a lot of matches under your belt, you are confident and you are super fit you aren't going far in Roland Garros.

I think that Nadal would dispatch him in 4 sets, maybe even in straight sets if they were to play today in Paris. My opinion is that on clay it's not like 'Hey I am Roger Federer, I can show up anytime I want and beat the crap out of anyone'. On clay it's all about surface preparation and physical shape and it looks like Federer doesn't have either at the moment.

I still am shocked he didn't try to go deep here, or at least go to the next round, in order to get at least a couple of matches under his belt on Clay before RG.

Excellent observation. It is really amazing how far gone he was, how off some of his shots were when trying to take the match. This turned from ones of the biggest chokes I have ever seen to the biggest tankjob. Given Fed's draw this was one of his best chances to tank before meeting Rafa earlier than usual.

I do not know about early but his semifinal streak looks in jeopardy to me.
