well, with kiddies running up and down the court across the pond Id imagine quite a few are 'distracted' but for those whom give a darn.... the CL drawing is tmrw:
ManC,'Pool, Real, Juve, Bayern, Barca, Sevilla, Roma (yes, theres a reason I put them last)
just had a nice chat with a friend regardign 'whom & what'. its not wise for any coach to give 'preference' to any one opponent over another; (lucky for us, we arent coaches )not that any of these teams would need motivation its just that those type of comments end up on the chalkboard.
plunked a chunk @1750 on my guys over the holidays (arm twisted actually). all in the hopes of at least making it to the semis where I can hedge that 2nd leg. but in order to get there............
please UEFA... give us Roma. familiarity, familiarity, familiarity.
but I swear these pairings are rigged towards ratings. I bet ManC & Pool get paired up. cuz UEFA wouldnt dare pair Real with Barca.

I'm a Liverpool supporter and i want no part of City or Barca or Real. Ideally I'd take Sevilla but am comfortable with either of the Italian clubs or even Bayern as there is some familiarity there for Klopp.

for those whom might not follow soccer daily or perhaps just have a passing interest. UEFA, for a reason I've still never really understood, throws all the Round of 16 winners and throws them into a hat again and does another drawing. theres just a slight difference this time:
1) Round of 16: teams could NOT a) face clubs from their own domestic league. ie... two EPL teams couldnt play each other. b) could not face teams whom were paired in the same Group stage
The Qtr-final drawing today: anything goes.theres no real seeding or ranking theres a chance 6 teams could face an opponent from their same league, tho slim.
Loose, that would be sweet
ElDub tks fer stopping in. i dont want to have to go thru another 2 matches with Barca (at least not until absolutely necessary). last year was h*ll to watch.
but in all honesty, if i had a choice Id rather get to have that 2nd leg at home, irrespective the opponent. theres no "weak links" left anymore.
im sure Bayern would love to get another crack at Real after getting hosed last year. ditto for Barca with my Juve.
lets see how far off we are, ill take a swipe at this too, which would make a conspiracy theorist PROUD:
ManC/'Pool: guarantees 1 EPL rep in the semis
Juve/Munich - cuz its seems we always freaking get them every two years. (fyi, i personally do NOT want to see munich)
(UEFA gotta keep those advertising dollars rolling in, so ya cant put barca & real together. god forbid)
Real/Sevilla: cuz someone in UEFA has his head FAR up Ronaldos a**.

Honestly, I didn’t even think about Sevilla - I made the prediction based on Roma being the “easiest” match up for them, but I dind’t even think of Sevilla. No one is easy at this point, but if there’s an “easy” team in this round, it’s Sevilla.

If we had at least gotten the 2nd leg at home we could have one of those magical Anfield European nights. We beat them earlier 4 to 3 in the league but all I can think of was that we were up 3 goals with 10 min to go and I never felt comfortable
Juve/Real looks like the best QF match up of the 4

ElDub, "Juve/Real looks like the best QF match up of the 4"
NOT FROM WHERE IM SITTING (laughing) couldnt you at least say Juve will win 8-0 on aggregate?
well, got 2 out of 4 correct. honestly didnt think the UEFA had the cajones to put last years finalists together. we all collectively threw up our arms in exasperation.
just on first glance, gotta side with Duece: City, Barca, Bayern, and..... well....... you know.
Duece, (removing my feelings of hatred for a sec here). at this stage, its ALL ABOUT matchups, MO's, styles. this is where ya gotta start 'nit-picking'. and to some extent, even the head coaching-- some HC have this stubborn refusal to adapt/adjust. but back to the matchups: said this to friends 2 years back and will say same thing here: I feel Barca is going to throttle Roma in Camp Nou and perhaps even render that 2nd leg meaningless. ill explain this the best way I know how: Romas defense is "built" to defend strongly from the sides. with Messi - and neymar no longer there - barca attacks a majority of the time straight down the gut (which is why ihad a legit fear of getting paired with them) & they dont really swing the ball to the sides often ---- when they do, its to create gaps/space when the defense shifts & NOT to make crosses into the middle. I get the feeling Roma is in a world of sh*t in Camp Nou. i know this team, and i know their capabilities. this is the worst matchup for any of the 8 teams involved.
on a side note, its NOT applicable to this year as they DO have a different coach. but gives reference to what im trying to explain above. back in 15 they still had a good chunk of the same players and employed the same system/style.... Barca ran them out of the park in Camp Nou 6-1.
my own opinions:
ya just KNEW those EPL clubs were gonna get paired. as a fan, ive been pretty much an advocate of saying the EPL is the strongest by far. it would have been nice to see them separated and "test their mettle" so to speak. to me its a big snubbed nose at England to put them together; whilst Roma/Juve get separated, and along with Real/Barca. when was the last time Real was paired with Barca BEFORE the semis anyways??? uefa is hogwash sometimes. but THANK YOU for sending Messi down south.
whatever. ya wanna hold up that trophy?? ur gonna have to run that gauntlet. no ands, ifs, ors, nors about it. it is what it is. but im gonna end this post the same way I started.......

General, thats the thing with Juve; every year we keep hearing the same things; we're getting old. we're slow. regarding the scheduling and supposed 'disadvantage' --- which i would probably say for any otthe club in same scenario --- but last year we had Napoli/Roma on our butts; won scudetto, won coppa, and made it to CL finals. i doubt if we can duplicate that this year. but our bench is deep & we've used soo many lineups ive lost count.
at the same time, we arent all too thrilled at seeing Real again. if healthy, and the way we're playing 'D', i like our chances with anyone. at least we match up well with them and can win the midfield battle. containing Ronaldo is a whole 'nother story though.
im anxious to see ManC & 'Pool, like Bollox mentioned, familiarity with one another is gonna make that much closer than what ppl might be expecting. 'Pool backers, have faith

i swear, at this time of year its nice to be a neutral in lots of ways this is anything BUT a "dandy" to me (ha)
to play devils advocate for a sec; sevilla DID get pts in trafford & anfield and gave barca a tough time in camp nou. not taking anything away from munich and not suggesting they can pull the upset. but i still think from the styles and matchup side of it all that the barca-roma is the biggest advantage/disadvantage of the 4 games.
