Thursday September 10th 2009 I sat down at the Bellagio beside my 3 good friends, Mr. Rainey, Mr. Sisson & Mr. Povey.
The opening night of the NFL kicked off as everyone was excited for the
titians and steelers to get underway. Off to the right hand side on a
smaller tv as the boys drank their beers and i had my coca cola
classic's, there was Georgia Tech at home to Clemson. The game had just
got under way and i looked over at Mr. Rainey and I said
" i firmly believe that Georgia Teach will give Virginia Tech a run for
their money and i believe GT will end up winning the ACC. They beat
clemson and VT. They are now in the championship game and the game is
against Clemson. The very first opponent they faced in ACC competition
this year.
Like I said to the boys in Vegas. The Georgia Tech offence with Nesbitt
and Dwyer are unstoppable and will not be stopped by the Clemson
defence. As much as i'm a fan of C.J. Spiller , he won't have too many
touches this weekend because GT is going to run run and run some more
down their throats and chew up the time of possession.
This is like the redskins last weekend against the Eagles. I am very confident that the Yellow Jackets win this game.

Are you not worried about the 350 rushing yards that the Yellow Jackets gave up to Georgia last Saturday? And now they have to try and stop Spiller and Ellington, who average 5 and 7 yards per carry.
Clemson also got chewed up a bit by South Carolina on the ground but, Tech looked worse.

I firmly believe and i no that you are going to completely disagree with me on this mohun that the SEC is built for defence. Georgia is a smash mouth football team. The option clearly didn't work against Georgia and I don't think it would work well on a lot of SEC teams.
However, the ACC doesn't come close to comparing to the SEC. Georgia Tech will be effective with the option and dominate in time of possession. Spiller can't do damage from the sidelines.
Also, Spiller ran for 87 yards on 20 carries early in the year when these teams faced each other, and georgia tech didn't dominate the time of possession that much.
Yes both teams looked bad last week, clemson against south carolina but that was on the road. Georgia Tech got beat at home to Georgia.

I was not talking about how Tech could not run vs Georgia though.
I was referring to the fact that Tech could not stop Georgia on the ground and the 350 rushing yards they allowed in one game.
I don't really have an opinion on this game, I think it is a very difficult game because these are two quite evenly matched teams. I just wanted to throw that out there for discussion.

well yes i realize that georgia ran all over gt for 350 rushing yards, but what i'm trying to say is i don't think its going to happen this week because clemson won't have the ball as much as georgia did, thus , they can't run for 350 on the ground if they don't get the ball because gt has it all day long .

Yeah no problem, and I see where you are coming from with the time of possession and I do realize how important that is.
This will be a very good football game, and I'm wondering where it is going to be televised because it's on the same time as the Big 12 championship which ABC will cover and CBS does not cover the ACC nor does NBC. And the sports pack had not picked up that game from what I saw earlier in the week, maybe the Score? Must be the Score?

Okay I had told Jeff this game was to close and to evenly matched teams for me to make a bet on it. Well tonight I have had more time to dive into this game and I now like Clemson enough to make a play on them.
These two teams met earlier this season in week two and Tech JUST hung on to beat Clemson 30-27. Georgia Tech was up 24-0 before Clemson stormed back to score 27 unanswered and then Tech came back with two FG's to win the game.
Georgian Tech runs a very gimmicky offense with the options, which if a team has already seen it once, they know how to prepare for it the second time out. Clemson did a fine job in the first meeting of containing that option. They gave up a special teams touchdown and one LONG 82 yard TD run in the first quarter. They then went on to shut down Tech only allowing three FG's for the remaining three quarters.
Clemson has the much better of the two defenses, Georgia Tech's very average D gives up 360 yards per game, and has allowed 27 or more points 7 times this season, and Tech did not have a very difficult schedule. They allowed an AVERAGE Georgia rushing attack to gain 340 yards on them last Saturday, which must concern their defense coordinator, with Spiller running on them this Saturday, and he is not average.
If you have ever watched this Georgia Tech team play, they don't really ever throw the ball. Josh Nesbitt is like a second running back with Dwyer. It is option, option and more options with them. So like I said, in that second half Clemson pretty much shut down that option and now have prepared for it all week. If they are able to do it again early tomorrow and Nesbitt has to throw a bit, the Yellow Jackets are in a lot of trouble, with Josh throwing against a strong secondary in Clemson. From what I read on ESPN Nesbitt is also a little banged up for this one, which is very big.
This Clemson offense is averaging 37 points per game in their last 6.
I'll take Clemson in a tight one, Clemson 27 Georgia Tech 21

Spiller, Ellington and Harper will be the key's to this game. If they can run anywhere like the Georgia backs did against Tech last Saturday, Clemson will win. These three need to produce long drives and keep Nesbitt and Dwyer over on the sidelines.
