In a new political low in Texas,
the Republican-dominated state Senate has passed a bill to
eliminate a requirement that public schools teach that
the Ku Klux Klan and its white supremacist campaign of terror
are “morally wrong.”
The cut is among some two dozen curriculum requirements
dropped by this new measure, which also include:
• studying Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech,
• the works of United Farm Workers leader Cesar Chavez,
• Susan B. Anthony’s writings about the women’s suffragist movement,
• and Native American history.

The tourist remark was made in May by Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-Ga.),

and helping barricade the doors for protection.

By doing this, he says schools will be making “an investment in love.”

wrote his op-ed as he promotes a bill he recently introduced to
teach children a *WHITEwashed* version of American history.
His bill, which is going nowhere, would bar federal money from going
to public schools that teach students about the roles
that white supremacy and racism played in the country’s founding.
Hawley’s new op-ed gives specific examples
of how to look at U.S. history through a purely positive lens:
“This isn’t a nation of oppressors. This is a nation of liberators,” Hawley wrote
of a history that includes white colonizers slaughtering Native Americans
in the name of civilization and President Andrew Jackson forcibly removing
100,000 Native Americans from their ancestral homelands,
resulting in 15,000 deaths from exposure, disease and starvation.

The delta variant is 'ripping through the unvaccinated' and crowding hospitals in Florida, Texas
A fourth wave of COVID-19 is threatening to overwhelm U.S. hospitals in regions where large swaths of unvaccinated people provide little resistance to the highly contagious delta variant.
Nowhere is the strain more apparent than Florida, which reached a new peak Tuesday of 11,515 people hospitalized with COVID-19, according to data from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
Hospitals in Jacksonville and Orlando last week crashed through their pandemic peaks, and hospitals in Miami-Dade County are at or approaching record coronavirus hospitalizations this week, said Mary Mayhew, CEO of Florida Hospital Association.
And cases continue to surge, with 110,477 residents testing positive for the COVID-19 virus for the week that ended July 29, foreshadowing more people needing hospital care in the weeks ahead.
