The '85 Bears went 15-1 that year. (Their only loss came on a Monday night against the Miami Dolphins.) The Bears that year had a swagger to them that is hard to describe. They "knew" they were going to win the Super Bowl... it was a foregone conclusion.
How many teams have ever made a Super Bowl shuffle video before playing in the Super Bowl?
Zero.
They didn't always score a lot of points and yet they often didn't need to, with their defense being as good as it was. During one six game span in the regular season they gave up just three touchdowns. All season long they gave up an average of 12.4 points per game, which was fewer points than any of the other 27 teams. They shut out Giants the in the Divisional Round and then did the same thing again next week in the Conference Championship game against the Rams.
My buddy and I drove to Vegas the week before the Super Bowl that year. We drove all over town, from casino to casino, looking for the best line. (No internet or cell phones back then!) We wanted to bet the Bears but were a little leery of having to give 11 points. We were hoping to find a book that offered just 10.
No such luck. Everywhere we went, the line was at least 11. So we bit the bullet and gave the 11. We bet far more than we should have, given our financial status at that time. But you only live once, right? These '85 Bears were something special, and I think we knew it.
Of course, we cashed easily after the Bears defeated the Pats in Super Bowl XX by the score of 46-10.
But it's more than just how they're winning... It's hard to describe. But this Ravens team also believes they already are going to win the Super Bowl.
The Titans finished 9-7 this year and ARE playing well. They are also not the same team they were at the beginning of the season. But I just don't see them hanging around for the entire game against the Ravens.
I don't often give this many points... but I think it's warranted here.
