GP2 had the 7th highest RAPTOR in the entire league. He has the 4th highest defensive raptor in the entire league behind gobert, jokic and draymond. He is an ELITE defensive player who led the league in steals per game per 36 minutes. Kerr barely played him the first 3 games against the Celtics and when he finally came to his senses and started playing him they dominated. His value on defense is that of a 25+ppg scorer on offense. Why on earth would they prioritize paying looney over GP2. They literally have wiseman and centers are easily replaceable. Having a complete hall stopper who can guard the best players luka/ja/Tatum is way more valuable than looney who is a backup center. Warriors f*cked up big time.

also I know signing him would have put them over the tax and a 3 year 30 million dollar deal turns into upward of 50 million. But again who cares? They would pay that tax for a 25ppg scorer. Which is the value gp2 has. Just brutal

That does not mean they are above criticism. I called the warriors winning a chip pre season. You had a list of about 10 players pre-season for MIP none of which included poole, I asked you why he wasn’t included in that list. I know this team better than you.

Wiseman is coming off of injury and hasn't played many games at any level. Not high school. Not college. Not pro. GPII's 3/30 would equate to close to 70 million. That's close to 70 million a year. You can't be serious. This team has no bigs and a ton of guards.

That 3 year $30 Million is basically 3 years $75 million with the luxury tax......

Look up RAPTOR stat. It’s the most accurate way to judge impact in the nba. GP2 has the 7th highest raptor in the league. Warriors had a league high 800 million in revenue last year and 450 after player salaries. Yes I would pay close to 70 million over 3 years for the second most impactful player on our roster. And no bigs what are you talking about? Wiseman coming off his injury what 16 months ago? Play the 7’1 phenom you drafted.

RAPTOR ratings in order. 1 jokic 2 Embiid 3 freak 4 luka 5 gobert tied for 6 butler tied for 6 curry, 7 GP2. People are SLEEPING on how good gp2 is. Lacob and Myers cheaped out.

No, Dave. It's like close to 70 million per year because of repeater taxes. Not worth it.

It's not close to 70 million over three years. You don't understand how the repeater luxury taxes work. The exact numbers are sketchy but it's somewhere between 65-70 million a year. His 9 million turns into 65-70 million a year. Not worth it.

Nobody is sleeping on GPII. All Warriors fans love GPII and wanted him back but 3/30M would be around 200M with taxes. We love GPII. We can't expect the ownership to keep paying more and more and more money. You have to reign it in

Nobody is sleeping on GP2? So last season when we were in the play in and GP2 didn’t play a single minute because of coaches decision against the lakers and grizzles and we lost. Or how about when the warriors gambled and put him on waivers before the season. Or how about when kerr didn’t play him enough in the regular season or the first 3 games of the finals. Warriors slept on GP2 100%, he’s gonna lock up Steph when we play Portland lol.

Wow, you'd think a guy that valuable would play more than 17 minutes/game... and if you're reading 538's Raptor ratings, he's actually tied for 38th overall and 13th at SG, but nobody expects you to excel at simple math here

You do realize he was coming back from injury, right?
Team had a 29 year old journeyman kid fall their way. They put him in a position to succeed, help him develop his game even further. He is rewarded for his hard work and they have to part ways.
Some dude on covers notices that the kid is pretty good and all of sudden thinks that he knows better than both on of the games best coaches, best staffs, and best front offices. Checks out.

You don't even realize how the luxury tax works so you're all, "sign him up for 3/30 million. I know it's like 66 million with the tax," not even realizing it would be 66-70 million A YEAR!!
I love GPII. Me and his dad are both from the town. I'm from the West, he's from the East, but it's all Town Biz. Oakland isn't very big. I have cousins that went to high school with him. Being a Pac-10(12)(10 again) homer, I followed him in college. I've always had love for the kid. The fans have loved the kid. You must not interact with many real fans. Most people wanted him back. Most were screaming for Joe to dig just a little deeper in the pocketbook BUT IN REPEAT OFFENDER TAX STATUS, GPII'S 30 MILLION BECOMES AS MUCH AS 200+ MILLION!! That's just unfeasible. Blame Kelly Oubre.

People talk about Warriors revenue without understanding gross and net. Without realizing the operating cost of doing business, especially in SF. Without realizing they have to make the mortgage on a 2 Billion dollar privately funded arena, and the Chase Center hasn't been booked for events nearly as much as they expected.
Joe Lacob and his group is putting their money where there mouths are, maybe more that any other owners in history and yet still we have stans out there saying, "pay 200+ million dollars over three years to retain Gary Payton the 2nd."

I listen to and read guys who know what they are talking about. Yes, his salary would have cost them more than double, nearly 70 million, and yes, they wanted to give even more playing time to their younger players, but GP 2 is a baller, a guy you know you can go to war with. There are not many guys like that in the NBA. He was poised, confident, fearless and had a knack for being in the right place at the right time. You just can’t teach that shit. Guys either have it or they don’t. In essence, he was a lesser version of Marcus Smart. But unlike Smart, he completely understood his role and didn’t try to do too much.
I don’t care what he was before he got to the Warriors or how much you think he is actually worth, what matters is that he was invaluable for the Warriors and they were not beating Boston without him. A guy like that is worth his weight in gold. It was foolish to let him go.

"You listen to guys who know what they are talking about" and yet they, and by proxy you, don't understand the way the repeater luxory tax works. I'll say it one more time. To pay GPII 10 million this season would cost close to 70 million, just this season. To give hime the exact contract Portland gave him would potentially cost upwards of 200 million.

Those guys you listen to and read really don't know what the hell there are talking 75% of the time. Bill Simmons just recently had to tweet out that he had did two episodes of his podcast proposing trades that aren't even possible. These talking heads on TV, these guys on the radio and doing podcasts, some of the most respected sports writers, these dudes don't know their ass from a hole and the wall half the time. They're just regular dudes with average sports knowledge. They're just verbose.

I just heard on the radio about 2 hours ago that the Nets & Lakers were or had discussed Durrant & Westbrooke. It was CBS and i woke up to it. Now i have no clue as to its veracity and i only post this because of possible further evidence to bolster Stumps 75% claim.

I don’t know looneys Craptor rating. I’m too old. But my geriatric eye sees a big who can switch, defend and REBOUND. And for less than GP don’t know how to land high flying 2. If Kuminga or Moody emerge, watch out. One will— same dumb team that drafted Poole 28 and Green 36 not to mention curry, klay, and looney.

Of course I agree with beginnerboy. But I think devancinxo is a bargain basement GP2. The dubs are counting on kuminga or moody taking a step. And rookie guard is a defender. Obviously money was a consideration. Will be fun to see how GP2 fares in new home.

KD was never really an option but the Westbrook for Kyrie deal looks like it will happen. This is one of those where the talking heads, and Kyrie, have literally willed it into existence. The Lakers have been shopping Westbrook to know avail. The Lakers, and LeGM, have mismanaged their roster so to the point that the only value they could offer anyone in a trade is the fact that Westbrook's contract is expiring but Kyrie, the baby that he is, demanded to play there so the Nets seem ready to acquiesce. They are trying to move Joe Harris in the trade to also get rid of his contract.
The Lakers complete screw themselves with poor roster decisions and still manage to fall forward. The league wants the Lakers, and Lebron, to be viable so apparently they get mulligans.
