Take some time today to reflect on the sacrifice that others made to give you a better country
I remember in my small hometown which was a college town they had a parade with vets, high school band, jeeps, etc. then a town family picnic with games and the firehouse would burn something , police would have a new car or canine even though there was pretty much zero crime besides people coming from other places to B&E. The pool opened and there were races and medals given out and a 5K race. Taps was played in the Center town at sun up, 10am with Nationa l anthem, sundown. Now there is a small Incovation, reading of the Names, Moment of Silence and that is pretty much it. Not much was done for July 4th because families would be on vacation and again it was a small college town. Without the Vets from WW1 and WW2 I kind of get it. Korean Conflict and Vietnam were just different and the wars of Empire in the Middle East, well..wars of choice and imperialism against non state actors. I remember looking forward to Memorial Day as a kid. I was going to go to a pretty large Memorial Day Celebration in Virginia but it is really just the Military Industrial Complex spending money to glorify not reflect and remember. For any man or woman that served thank you and for any family that lost a loved one in the past hopefully We as a nation can do better to thank you for the ultimate sacrifice for Our Nation.
