I am going to lay out on a limb and say even though Mazzulla killed the Celtics chances by not trusting anyone else on that bench including Kornet/Pritchard who got playtime slashed in the last game. Mazzulla should have pulled Tatum with 3 min left when I felt there was no way Celtics were going to win the game. Horford can't play more than 24 min. or so(effectively). Trust the deep bench. IF Mazzulla chooses to go to a 3 guard lineup with current mix or even bring JD Davison (G League MVP) off the bench, may lose defense but needs offense tonight. I am certain Mazzulla will need to generate more offense and bring B. Scheierman off the bench and will be the x factor tonight.
Key factors to winning tonight.
*Keep minutes controlled to have fresh players for the 4th push. The starting lineup is past its prime ex. J. Brown.
*Trust the deep bench and hope a player steps up tonight.
*Stay away from what is routine--Mazzulla. You have the keys to change matchups and see what works to excel.
*Please keep 3pt shots below 60. For God's sakes, somebody drive the lane and attack the basket. Get physical. Lose the finesse. Give yourself a chance to extend the series. Play the half court game, which is the Celtics strength.
My 2 cents for tonight. BOL all

Great post. From a motivational angle this is a sensational spot to back Boston. But is their coach good enough to harness the motivation to its maximum value and also make the tactical tweaks you’ve identified?
Cleveland were in a similar spot and fell flat so I’d love to hear reasons why that won’t happen here

Mazzulla has to utilize his bench to replace Tatums 36 min average per game. In other words, he is forced to make changes to replace those minutes. Look at players that not sniffed any minutes so far and when you have a deep bench:
Queta- A defensive presence that can give Porzingis/Horford a blow. His energy down low will wake up the tired veterans.
JD Davison the current G League MVP has the tools to score.
Scheierman- Creighton stud that can shoot and facilitate.
T. Craig a proven veteran with a NZB championship/MVP.
Because Houser is out, this complicated the Celtics sustainability keeping leads from the beginning. Houser was the guy that gave Tatum proper rest. Rest comes in hand when playing a physical team like the Knicks.
Cleveland fell because they have no point guard. Strus/Garland combined for 5 assists. D. White averages almost 6 by himself. Mitchell was Ballin individually as usual. I have never been a big Strus/Mitchell fan because both players don't make the team better. Atkinson could have made adjustments, but I counted on him to fail in his first year head coach. His bench is not as good as the Celtics. Pacers were my best play yesterday.
Tonight Mazzulla is forced to play some of those studs. Trust the bench. Should be a good outcome.

I don't see the C's switching up the strategy at all tonight. Starters will play big mins Brown, White, Holiday, Horford, Pritchard. Porzingus/Kornet off bench. Hauser is listed as probable according to C's social. Maybe a little Schierman/Craig for a few minutes but this is elimination game. C's will play their regular rotation minus Tatum. Brown will be a ball hog and try and win the game on his own. Lot of 3's incoming from Pritch/White/Holiday/Hauser(if he goes). Why would the C's change up the strategy now? They live and die by the 3 this season and they'll do the same at home tonight. If the 3's are falling, C's should get the win. If they play sloppy and have a bad shooting night...season is over and this team will be disassembled in offseason. Tough to see it end like this for those of us that have been with them for past 4-5 years.

boston live and die by three, there's no gameplan in between, and that's why the coach is only there to call timeouts.
Dually noted. Stay within the average 45-48. Make 38 percent of higher. Celtics will be in a good spot. I believe they have one more in them. Good luck.

Like I said Celtics are 9-2 without Tatum. Brown likes to drive the lane so that's a good thing if he does ball it tonight. Elimination game brings out the best in these guys. If Hauser plays than Mazzulla will lean on Hauser with limited minutes. Coming off an injury max 16-20 min. We will see. Keep threes under 45 and work clock and half court game. Should be under the number. 208.

Boston is 9-2 without Tatum this year.. Choke or no choke. D day for Boston.
He skipped games against the Pistons (twice, when they were 9-14 and 10-16), the Blazers, the Jazz, the Nets, the Suns, the Wizards, the Hornets, and three games against the Magic. So 8 of those 9 wins came against teams that were way below .500 and they lost 2 of 3 to the one team that had a winning record at the time.

@tweets50 Irrelevant stat IMO of Boston being 9-2 without Tatum. whats concerning is the Knicks have come back from every deficit, like pacers (bar one), and was hoping they would be even money odds. No lean as of yet man wish u luck
Got it. Tatum is the best in the East, can't replace him. Boston bench can be starters on other NBA teams so I am counting on the bench tonight. BOL to you.

Yes. Best win was in the playoffs vs. Orlando without Tatum. Stat is a stat. Not the best one to use, with Tatum being out. If Hauser plays, then I think he sticks with a 8 man rotation.
From a line standpoint. Opened at -3.5 now at -4 -4.5. 70/30 Splits Knicks. If money keeps hammering Knicks I will feel much better on the Celtics.

I spent about 3.5 hours looking at just about every stat in this game and its 7:18 pacific time. Sometimes, I use my coaching hat to cap these games. All I know for certain I am placing the best wager of the playoffs so far. Buy low, sell high mentality. Everyone is low on the Celtics for many reasons, including coaching decisions, including me. Players rise up when they want in the NBA. That's what kind of ironic. We expect them to be machines making all that money, but from a mental standpoint, I don't think Celtics want to go out this way and the line is overdone with Tatum out in my opinion.

Celtics -4(-115) POW I am going to lay out on a limb and say even though Mazzulla killed the Celtics chances by not trusting anyone else on that bench including Kornet/Pritchard who got playtime slashed in the last game. Completely agree, man. If the Celtics want to win tonight, it has to start with serious defense. The three-ball will always be part of their identity, but defending the paint and midrange—especially against Brunson—is the real key. He’s been feasting in those areas all series, and if Boston doesn’t make it tougher for him to operate, the Knicks are just going to keep riding that.
I also feel you on the point about fresh legs. The older core can’t carry the full load like before, and Mazzulla has to get creative and trust his bench a bit more. Rotate, mix up looks, and challenge New York defensively. If they lock in on D and play with grit, they’ve definitely got a good shot at bouncing back and taking control of the series again.
Let’s see if they respond tonight. BOL!

Brunson's usage rate is the NBA playoff high at almost 37 percent average. Doesn't bode well long term for the Knicks. Celtics ball tonight.
