Not even meaning that I think Youk is going to turn into what he used to be.
But, all week here in Chicago the talk was that the White Sox were going to sell this year come the trade deadline. There is still time for that to happen, but to me, making this trade means they are going for the playoff run this year. I dont see them making a trade like this is they plan on dumping come the deadline.
Stewart stinks, and Brett doesnt do much for us. Even with the bad numbers he has this year, Youk is a huge upgrade from Hudson and/or Morel.
Maybe a change and a new lineup is all Youk needed. What this could mean for the White Sox if he some how turns into what he was the last few years
I just hope this means the Sox try to stay in it this year and dont start dumping players. Weve got two of the best young lefty starters in the league

I was in the camp that thought that the Sox needed another starter more than a 3rd baseman (yes I've watched Morel and Hudson play), but with the emergence of Quintana, I think 3rd base was the way to go...could still use a bullpen arm. Not at the expense of a prospect though

Exactly...Quintana has been an amazing surprise this year...
Poor kids numbers have been outstanding. Last two games he has given up 0 runs and has 0 runs out of it
I know that they are a long-shot, but once you make the playoffs anything can happen.
Right now we are leading the division, barely, and that is with Danks and FLoyd laying an egg on the mound this year.
I really like their chances taking the division this year.
As for the trade, in my eyes we gave up nothing, for a player just a couple years ago was putting up amazing numbers. If he someone gets half of that back, this trade could turn up being huge

They really did give up nothing. I appreciate what Lilli did last year, but my God was he awful this year. Can't lay off the off-speed pitches in the dirt...and Stewart...I jumped for joy when they finally sent him down, and now I'm super psyched that he's the BoSox problem.
This can only help the Sox. Even if they get the bad Youkilis from the last couple of years, It's STILL better than what they've gotten from Morel/Hudson this year.

Maybe a change of scenery will help youk. He plays so hard and as he aged, his body couldn't take it anymore. Reliable third baseman defensively, maybe some pop left in his bat.
As a sox fan, watching youkilis hit this year has been frustrating.. watch for this- he has NO idea where the strike zone is, he strikes out on a ton of outside fastballs on the corner, that he thinks are off the plate. And he is going to get a heaaavy dose of sliders, he just hasn't been able to touch them this year and every team knows he'll swing over them.
Hopefully he turns it around and ends strong with CWS. Is Stewart as horrible as i think he is??

White Sox should be sellers at the trade deadline...Tigers have the Central in the bag!
The tigers are awful. You must not be watching baseball this season. Their pitching all around is atrocious as well as their defense. Not to mention Leyland should be 10 years removed from MLB managing.

Yep...as bad as they have been and still only 3 games out, now the second half can only get better...can the other teams in the Central say the same thing...

That by no means mean they will get better the 2nd half of the season hhaha. Not unless they get a new pitching staff outside of Verlander. And yes the WSox have played terrible the last 3 weeks and are still in first place. They by far have the best starting pitching in the division don't see that changing but good luck to your tigers ha

Verlander, Fister, and Scherzer can be as good as any other 1-2-3 in all of baseball...the question is will they be...then Smyly and they will acquire another starter by the deadline...Porcello's days are numbered as a Tiger...just think the White Sox and Indians are doing the same as they will do all year...but the Tigers have another gear and they are just about to shift into it...

Is that a joke pitch...as good as any other 1-2-3? Max had 1 good year in 2010 and has continued to have horrible control problems...fister has been hurt all year and he had a breakout year last year.
Smyly is a joke and shouldn't even be on the team, their bullpen is a disaster now, their defense is horrible, they are extremely old and slow. Outside of Miggy and Fielder that lineup does not look all that great.

Also, youk should not be hitting at the bottom of the order...i want to see him in the middle of the order for now he needs the confidence boost he is only 33 and could easily revert to his old self

Someone called me out earlier in the year when I said the Tigers have 1 starting pitcher.
I stand with that claim. Fister is good, but nothing much to impress there. As for Max, I wont even comment on him.
Call it a homer comment, but, besides Verlander being the best in the game, I would take the Sox starting staff over Det this year no doubt
So far this year, our "#1 #2" have given us nothing this year. Not many ffirst place teams can make that claim.

i agree with Pitch.... the Tigers are close and still have yet to have that stretch of 10 straight wins, i really believe the Tiger win the central, they have yet to play their best baseball.....
as for the youk trade.... white sox's get a steal here IMO.... low risk high reward trade for the sox's..... what more can you ask for...... if youk stinks and doesn't get it together it cost you $2 million in salary and Lilli and Stewart.... well worth the risk IMO
Porcello's days are not numbered as a Tiger... he is only 23 years old..... if the tigers are done with him 29 other teams will lineup to sign him.... he isn't going anywhere, too young to give up on...

The Tigers were 1.5 games back last year at the All-Star break. It looks like Victor Martinez will be coming back in August which is huge protection for Fielder. Berry has been a nice surprise...and I would like to see him play everyday over Young or Boesch. The bullpen has been pitching much better over the last couple weeks. As bad as the Tigers have played this year....to only be 3 games out is amazing...not to mention all the injuries they have had. When a team has not reached its potential...it is nice to see that they're still within striking distance.

Well Said and right on! A lot of Detroit Tigers apologists in this thread. They aren't a good team and will remain that way. Fister is average and Max is garbage.

As far as scherzer...he is the second leading strikeout pitcher in the American League (behind Verlander), yes control is an issue at times but I would hardly say horrible...
Smyly is and should be in the bigs...you should have seen the size of the blister on his pitching hand, he had been dealing with it for a number of starts before he went on the DL...
and the bullpen a disaster...hardly...below and villareal (both ERA's under 2.50) and Coke...then they have Marte, who started the year on the DL, but is now healthy and will be a strong addition...then you have Dotel and Benoit (the two setup men) and Valverde as closer (still one of the best) little shaky this year but the other night was Leyland's fault...tie game and you know Valverde sucks if it is not a save situation and he went to Valvarde instead of Marte...Valverde being down this year a little is expected after going 50 for 50 last year...but he is still one of the best in the game...

Good God...Sox fans think they will win. Tigers fans think they will win. Blah blah blah...this thread wasn't even supposed to be about that, but Detroit fan blowhards can't let a White Sox thread pass without reenforcing that they are the best team in the division. Get over it Tiger fans. The only team in the history of the American League Central to actually close the deal and WIN a World Series was the Sox, so until you guys can actually close the deal....JUST. SHUT. UP.
It doesn't matter. The Sox aren't winning the WS this year, and guess what...neither is Detroit. So the whole argument is stupid anyhow.

Strikeouts mean nothing. He was a mediocre pitcher coming into the year and he's been worse than that this year.
Agree on Smyly. Not sure how much success he'll have the rest of the year but he deserves to be in the bigs right now.
Just naming who's in their bullpen doesn't make them good. Their bullpen collectively ranks in the bottom of 3rd of baseball and only Cleveland and Toronto have a worse bullpen era than Detroit in the AL. I don't agree with Valverde. There's 20 closers I would take before him.

So what...that's what these forums are for...discussing info on sports, a thread goes wherever it goes...the individuals who want to post in a thread decide where it goes, if you don't like what is being said in a thread then by all means post that also...or just move on and don't read it anymore...but if someone has something to say then they should say it...

Actually...I was replying to the statement that their bullpen was horrible...so in the case of Coke, Dotel, Benoit, and Valverde...I think mentioning the name is enough because they are all proven big leaguers and far from horrible...the horrible part of the bullpen is when they had to call two or three up from the minors who were definitely not ready...but now they are back where they belong...
