How do you decide who to pick for MLB against the spread? What do you look at to help you decide?
Also, what do odds, line moves, and handicapping matchup reports mean?
This is not for betting money. It is for doing pick 'em, against the spread for free where you can win stuff.
Do you have any strategies to be a winner? ||win.gif' border=0>
Thanks, I'm kind of new to this. So any help would be appreciated.

The starting pitcher is a big factor... look at his recent starts. maybe last 3 to 5 starts and see how he was doing. That's the only thing I'll share with you. Others will tell you more.

educated guess..you have 50% chance of getting it right. flipping a coin always works best for me! if all else fails, then try throwing darts at the names of the teams on the dart board. just joking,
i think in baseball streaks play a major role, just got to jump on a hot team at the right time. and of course the starting pitcher plays a major role also. gl

I've wanted to ask how people cap the games- what stats or parts of games they look at more closely than others. Things people have shared are line movements (monies being bet), how many wins some team has had during the year, how bad a pitcher was last time out, etc.
None of that really matters. Like the song says, "It don't matter at all where you played before- California's a brand new game"....
So like the guy above said, check out the starting pitchers. Read HIS stats for the last 2-3 games (not the game results). Check those game results to see if his team got him any runs- how many Inn. did he pitch- how many of HIS ER counted in a loss- how are the bull pens backing up each pitcher.
Check how many runs each team was 'capable' of getting in the last 5 games. If a starter is a leftie, check how well the other team hits lefties. Is their BA greater than the team hitting the right-hander?
Keep your money in your pocket and practice your skills on the free contests here. Compare yourself with others- read the forum and glean any info they are willing to share.
Welcome & Good Luck.

starting pitcher, strength of bullpen (for holding leads), team success vs opposing team (ie LAA/Boston, Philly/Atlanta), teams batting success vs opposing pitcher etc.
play the streaks and try and avoid huge favs, yes they win but if they lose it's like losing 2 games ||Peace_5.gif' border=0>

No secrets:
Starting pitchers - WHIP matchup (fuck ERA it is a shitty stat).
last 10 ballgames - hot/cold trends.
I try to go with home teams as much as possible. Always a home team with an over 60% win at home vs. a road team with under 40% on road.
Only take road teams like LAA who have a road record better than most team's home records.
I totally disagree with the above poster about heavy favorites -- at home, with a good pitching matchup - solid home team...go for it!
welcome to wagering, and as always - GOOD LUCK||clover.gif' border=0>

first, i watch ALOT of games, which helps in any sport.i look at the openings lines and moves. not too much of a stat guy, more feel and alot of experience (another way of saying i've learned from my losses).

I agree (sort of) about the ERA's- That's why you're to check out each pitchers stats. I only go back 2-3 games (8-12 days). Whatever is bothering a pitcher is usually cleared up by then.
His stats will tell you if he's having control problems (check injuries), how long he keeps his control (innings) runs he's responsible for and how many outs he can be counted on for. If he can't seem to get anybody out, better check the defense on his team. (Hits against runs...)

Start by deciding who not to pick - less is better in baseball. The sheer volume of plays per season can kill you. Get disciplined. Play on "paper" for a season or two. Then, when you get get a feel for playing a moneyline sport like baseball (also hockey is a good brush up since the season is shorter, damage can be controlled more), give it a try. Put up money you can afford to lose, because you will. Be ready to walk away when you are up.
The object in baseball is to get up early and then money manage your winnings. A bankroll can go up in flames in a matter of weeks. Be prepared to walk away. It is the toughest of the four majors over the long haul. Expect highs and lows, sort of like playing golf. When you think you have it, you par the toughest hole or grab a birdie, what happens next? Bogey, or worse. That is betting baseball. Enjoy the wins, forget the losses. Play one or at the most, two a day. Whittle down your choices, expect to have no plays some days (that takes years to learn).
Hope this helps.
