This
competition between the starting pitching staff in NY has caused some
impressive performances by Hughes and Nova lately. Now it's Burnett's
turn. I expect him to step-up tonight. He'll be facing a team against
which he has a 4-1 record with 3.03 ERA and 1.3 WHIP. His team is 8-2
against MInny in his starts lifetime. I know Minny is a lefty-heavy
lineup but Burnett in his career has a 3.68 xFIP against lefties,
compared to 3.88 against right-handers. Yes, he's one of those unusual
cases that has the 'reverse platoon' effect in his favor. Opposite him
is LIriano. All we really need to know is that he's a lefty, as the
Bombers are now 27-11 against left-handers this year and 103-59 over the
last couple of seasons. At the same time Liriano, whose velocity is
way down this year, is 0-3 against New York with his team going 0-6 in
his starts. The Yankees are 21-3 against Minny in the past 24 meetings
and 10-1 in games played in Minnesota. Unless I'm missing something,
this is an automatic play on the Bombers.
#2: UNDER 9 CLE/DET -105
I
have this one at 6.8 total runs. We'd need 10 runs scored to lose.
That's a huge variance, biggest one of all the games today according to
my model. These are big games for DET and CLE so I expect extra focus
in these. The UNDER has hit in 14 of the last 22 meetings between these
squads and in 3 of the 4 games played in Detroit already this season. I
see a low scoring game in this one as well.
Good luck fellas!
