Cd- I agree that most medications- not just statins- are over prescribed...
Statistics can be manipulated to exaggerate a point... That's why the design of the study is so important-and we have to critically analyze any data to assure (to the best of our ability) that it's valid....
One day I'd like to have a discussion about the "MMR / autism link"- but that's another topic.....

The 4S study- if you are interested, there are multiple references to the study with a simple google search- unfortunately some of the articles are only available with a subscription to the particular journal, but the link posted is a decent synopsis.....

I would agree that many of those things listed in the article might help- however those appear to be general health guidelines- I didn't see any hard data supporting their use....
Review the studies I posted, then compare it to the article you linked and decide which you think is more compelling... In the end it's your life, your decision; I'm just providing information to consider- but in the end your best bet is finding a physician you trust and follow their recommendations-

Why don't doctors mention these to patients instead of prescribing pharmaceuticals? I think you know the answer.
Does anybody dispute the natural ways to reduce it? Is there a chance that none of them work? I highly doubt that's the case.
Remember almost every med made, comes from a natural source. You should find a doctor who is trained in western medicine and eastern medicine (which is a doctor who uses natural cures)
and like i first said, do your own research and you will soon see that cholesterol isnt the real problem, its inflammation.

Don't take Lipitor. I worked with a guy who started taking it and it destroyed his life. He has ALS also known as Lou Gehrig's disease . It is so damn sad. Fukk big pharma

Yeah I would not take the script..doctors get paid for pushing them on you and if you have ANY way of improving your numbers from a non-script method, do it.
The side effects are huge and you are turned into a life long cash register once you start listening to advice like that.

What am going to post right now will show you how truly disgusting the drug companies are and the crap they peddle.
Over-The-Counter Statin Drugs... What
Next?
Dear
Reader,
By now we all know how Big Pharma and its cronies are
trying to push cholesterol-lowering statin drugs down everyone's throats...
especially now that 'statin guidelines' are about to be updated.
As if
that's not enough, it looks like Pfizer, the manufacturer of the blockbuster
statin drug Lipitor, has a wicked trick up its sleeve. One that would put its
dangerous drug in reach of everyone... 24/7!
There's an app for
that
Pfizer was in a fix back in 2011 when the patent for its
billion pound blockbuster statin drug Lipitor, was about to expire. So someone
hatched the idea to keep the big money rolling in. "Why not try and get a
non-prescription version of Lipitor on the market?"
The very thought of
being able to casually buy Lipitor at a pharmacy is so crazy that even the big
shots at Pfizer must've thought it was an insane plan. But the company has one
goal, so it went ahead to find "new and creative ways" to get the American Food
And Drug Administration (FDA) to give the go-ahead for this scheme: They
enrolled a little help from their friends at the American Heart Association and
the American College of Cardiology when it unveiled its "heart risk calculator"
last year.
Actually, it's more like a "statin risk" calculator. Because
what it will do is put over 13 million more people at risk of taking this drug.
This "heart risk calculator" is like an app on your iPad or iPhone. But
instead of playing an innocent game, you're playing cardiologist. Answer seven
questions and it will give you your 10-year risk of having a heart attack... and
BINGO! You're playing right into the hands of one of the most underhand
pharmaceutical companies in the world.
Based on the results of your
"heart risk calculator" (let's face it, your results are almost certainly going
to point to only one thing), you don't need to ask your doctor for a
prescription... Nope, you just walk into a pharmacy and pick up your
over-the-counter (OTC) Lipitor.
Last October, Pfizer started its big
"trial" for OTC Lipitor at over 35 pharmacies. It recruited 1,200 people and
gave them a dummy box of the pills to look at, and had them use the app. If
their responses were "right," they were "allowed" to sign up for the trial...
And, they were given OTC Lipitor to take home, with instructions on how to pop
one of those side effect ridden pills a day for almost seven months.
Pfizer said that this trial will show them if people can follow the
directions correctly. The company will present the results to the FDA to close
what it calls the "treatment gap." What they're really saying is, "Let's make
Lipitor as easy to buy as chewing gum."
One Pfizer executive called it
the company's "responsibility to demonstrate patients can safely and effectively
use these products."
The thing is, patients might be able to follow the
instructions but that still won't change the fact that statin drugs aren't safe
even when a doctor is prescribing them and monitoring their use. The idea of
allowing people to grab a drug this risky off the shelf and manage their own
dose is unbelievable!
If Pfizer gets away with this plan, it may just be
the tip of the iceberg for a dangerous new trend of pushing prescription drugs.
What am going to post right now will show you how truly disgusting the drug companies are and the crap they peddle.

Please listen to him carfully St. I am sworn to not reveal his credentials.

If a Dr prescribed this to you he/she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side
effects.
I am currently taking Pravastatin 40mg daily.
Again, if you have a family history of problems, pay attention.
How sure of this are you? Any doctor can say that he "believes" the benefits will outweigh the risks. However, his beliefs won't do a damn thing for me when I'm pissin' blood.
Sorry but I'm not going out like that. If I die because I didn't take my Lipitor then so be it. No problem. But I won't subject my body or my lifestyle to Big Pharma. I just won't.

You might consider Red Yeast Rice. I've been taking it along with coQ10 and had good results with no side effects. When I mentioned it to my doctor, he said he wasn't surprised my levels had dropped, since RYR is basically the same as a statin.

I agree 100% that I'm not going out suffering either. Already told Wifey when my time comes I am going out on MY TERMS with Bushmills Irish Whiskey and an Ambien OD.

Yes, I am NOT a brave man.
Goose, high cholesterol numbers are not the problem. Inflammation in your arteries is the real problem. Do some research and find a more update cardiologist. Go read how much of your brain is made up of cholesterol. Our bodies need it. Sugar and inflammation, and sugar is the cause of inflammation
If that cholesterol pill makes you sleep better at night, then good luck with that.
