wow if indiana can gain 8 more wins this year than they did last year in 2024 that would be awesome !!!!
@KellyM_1964
LOL
As per the the op's subject of this specific thread - ie, a rags to riches story from 2024 to this season, similar to what Indiana did as a LOSING 2023 team - winning 8 more games and into the playoffs in 2024 - it's going to be incredibly difficult for any team to achieve that.
Many teams will show marked improvement this season, of course, but not like that...
sooners do have the best chance to go from a loser last yr to playoffs this yr
doesnt mean they will though

i can see west virginia becoming relevant again. rich rodriguez back coaching again. and add pat white as a qb coach. you can win a fortune by just betting their game totals. another one could be unc. belicheck will turn that team around.
didn't read the entire question. to make the playoffs, i think they have less than 50%. but to see improvement from last year i think we'll see the difference.

If we are LITERALLY talking about an 8 win flip from losing team to playoffs, my answer is nobody. I guess FSU could do it since they were awful and have a general pedigree but I am not high on them.
If we are talking about general sleepers who could get to the playoffs from the P5...
Indy
Washington
Utah (can't really call them a sleeper when they are right off the favorite odds to win big 12)
Is Florida a sleeper?

UTAH. Watch out for Devon Dampier, a dual threat QB who passed for 2800 and ran for 1200 with a terrible NMex offensive line. This year he has one of the best OL's in the country. As always a tight tough defense. A Big12 schedule, many tough games, all "winnable". Injuries have killed the Utes the past few years. With some good fortune there, they will be a very tough out every game.

Indy, Washington and Florida would be coming off 2024 with a winning record - so they can't qualify as "rags to riches" (ie, like Indiana's huge turnaround from a LOSING team to the playoffs)
Mind you, I have those ranked in my top 40 [posted today over in my thread fwiw; check it out and feel free to comment] ....and I look for improved numbers for Washington, Florida and UTAH. I expect Indiana is about the same as they were last year and may achieve similar, although there's also a fair chance of a "fall back" [regression] like being a victim of their own success. I wish well for the Cinderella HOOSIERS's, but the BIG TEN looks top heavy this year with at least 3 teams I have rated ahead of them and both Michigan and USC right on the verge of big moves UP as well.
That said, as we know, so much depends on which GOOD teams manage to stay healthy and/or develop excellent depth so they don't miss a beat when key players go down...

I like Florida they need to be favorites and cover more as such. Tons of value as dogs they have proven that. They either elevate or stay dogs.
A stong contender this year...
...but they were already a GOOD team last year [8 - 5] and as such can't qualify as a rags to riches story (like Indiana did) per the intent of this thread by the op

better offensive line and better WRs. I have questions about him remaining. I guess it won’t be an issue if Utah is a dynamic and high level running team. We’ll see.
Nothing is ever in the bank until it is in the bank

Devon Dampier :
Yes runs for good yardage too
58% passer in 2 seasons at New Mexico
30TDs 24 Ints
now he is stepping up to the big 12
