The Sugar Bowl would have blocked that move anyway, and the BCS doesn't have anything to do with picking anything other than the title game. Do you think the Sugar Bowl would have wanted to be shut out from taking an SEC team and having TWO teams from out of their primary area? The Rose Bowl didn't even bother to ask, because there is NO WAY the Sugar would have gone for it. They could have gone for Mizzou, but IL and MZ played to a standstill this year..6 in one hand half dozen in the other, might as well keep the tradition.
I'm excited about the Georgia/Hawaii matchup. Everyone and their brother thinks Georgia is one of the best 3 or 4 teams in the country. I'm glad Hawaii got a heavyweight so now we can see what they're made of. Had they played Illinois, it wouldn't have proved as much.

Correct - Illinois is in this game b/c they are Big 10 and will travel very well to Pasadena. Trojans roll by 4 TD's or more - look toward being preseason #1 next year.

I understand Illinois fans are upset with my comments about USC having to play Illinois. This isn't me puffing my chest out and feeling high and mighty and egotistical about my team. Anyone here who knows me knows thats not how I roll. I'm as unbiased as they come. This is the bowl games. I want to see my Trojans play the best possible team allowed. I'm not dillusional and upset that USC is not playing in the national championship. Not at all, USC fucked that chance up long ago. I've never even once said USC was one of the best teams in the country. NEVER. Everyone is telling me they are easily a top 2 or 3 team. But I don't care about that. I care about ending the season, watching the seniors (and some juniors), play their last game. And how can I not be disappointed in seeing them play Illinois. Illinois fans don't get it. Put yourself in USC viewpoint. Is it a great thing to play Illinois? You guys were the 4th or 5th choice by the Rose Bowl committee. Its not a true #1 pac 10 vs. #1 big 10 matchup. Which is why this Rose Bowl is cheapened. I would have loved to see Illinois play Hawaii in the Rose Bowl, and Georgia vs. USC in the Sugar. Like I said, I'd rather have USC lose playing Georgia, than win vs. Illinois. USC beats Illinois, great, but what does that really mean? They lose to Illinois, great, USC was overrated. Teams that lose to USC are ALWAYS overrated, in the publics opinion.
I apologize to Illini fans who think I'm taking a shot at their University. I'm not. Its the last game of the year, and after hanging by a thread during the regular season (every year), I wanted a little more bang for my buck. I won't go into predicting who will win and by how many. but what I will continue to say is that USC has the worst BCS matchup. Its not often USC gets a chance to play a Georgia, for example. It would have been fantastic for college football to see that matchup. Illinois vs USC does nothing for college football. People don't understand. I'm from LA. I grew up thinking nothing was better than the Rose Bowl. Nothing better than waking up New Years, firing up the grill, and watching the game at 1:30p. But the last few Rose Bowls have absolutely sucked, with the exception of Texas/USC.
I guess my stance against a playoff will have to change because of this. I live to see USC play top notch programs. You can't be the best if you're not beating the best.
Good luck Illini fans. You'll have a blast down here in Southern California. And take it from me, if you're having trouble getting tickets because the price is too steep, wait till game day. There will be plenty 30 minutes prior to kickoff. But get to the Rose Bowl early. Traffic is a bitch.

One thing is for certain, you won't get the sorry ass effort you got from Michigan in last years game. Michigan felt dissappointed to go to the Rose Bowl last year and it showed in their lack of preparation and effort. They have been an absolute disgrace to the Big Ten in bowls the past 5 seasons and are a team that loves to pack it in once they are out of national title contention. With that being said, expect quite a change in this year's game. Look for Illinois to stay committed to their running game like they have all season with various passing plays spread throughout the game. Illinois should also be effective in containing USC's run game and may get some pressure on Booty from time to time. I see this game going a lot the OSU/ILL game. On the flip side, USC will take that field with a lot of pride and respect for their storied alumni after a solid month of preparation. USC hasn't lost a rose bowl in god knows when. I like USC 34-24.
I'm sorry but Michigan can go shove it up their cornhole, I hope they lose to Florida by 40 points.

sorry- covers f'd up.
i'll take the illini +14 at gametime. USC has a terrible time with mobile qbs. zook has good team speed on that team and will be prepared.
usc has killed only 1 team this entire season...pathetic performance against a terrible UCLA team. 7 points in the second half? they sleptwalk through that game and will do the same in the Rose Bowl.

what alias are you now Go_Illini_Go? The game was just as predicted. And now I have to hear about how good USC is, and how they are the best team right now. Who cares! They beat a shit team in a meaningless bowl game this year. Love all the seniors who are leaving, especially Herschel Dennis. He deserved that spotlight toward the end of the game. I actually got a tear watching him bask in his last glory.
