Wanted to see if anyone else watched the black gold spring game at Folsom Field and caught the 17 year old Juju Lewis? Hard to fathom he won’t even be 18 until Sept 21st. My initial impression was holy moly this kid is tiny! Second or third pass I saw the arm that has earned him the accolades and I was wowed and Impressed! Carrollton GA boy listed at 6’1” 190 lbs. What I saw reminded me of a young Kyler Murray. I had him pegged at 5’11” with cleats on. But the zip he had spinning it was what grabbed me. Much like Murray you can barely see him behind the blockers and then you see his 103 mph fast ball with accuracy, hit the mark. 100% confident in his size and game and mature well beyond 17 years. I don’t see him starting, but I would start him over Liberty transfer Salter who I assume has the reigns at 22 years old and a 20-4 record as a starter. Booted from Tennesee in 2021 for weed I believe. Perhaps Shurmur OC sees something…he’s a helluva coach and will get the best out of their individual strengths.
I’m pretty sure Coach Prime busted one heck of a dance move winning the commit from Juju over Penn St and Tennesee. Was he maybe committed to USC at one point? Congrats CU anyhow it’s much too early to be suggesting who to start, but I saw something with Mr. Lewis that will be exciting to watch in the future.

Not surprising to me old boy Phil Steele had Juju Lewis as the #2 QB recruit in the country! He’s only 17 years old 9-21-2007 and the skies the limit. Looks like he’ll start behind Salter who might be a sleeper this year… but I’m certain Julian will get at least 30% of snaps by the time conference play rolls around. Telling yall I really like what i see from Juju on film…a star in the making.

update on some CU juju thoughts…. A. Kaidon Salter looks like a smart fit early. The game management and experience. Kaidon could have one heck of a start with this early schedule. B. I think Watkins will come in and out 20-30% of the plays C. TE Zach Atkins a qb’s best friend a 6’4” 245 lb junior TE. This kid’s legitimate…impressive. “They’re the most hated team in college football, and I love that; I want to be a part of that. I feed off that.” D. The O Line. Appears the Buffs have finally made some progress here.. some serious size for a change. Seaton obviously will play on Sundays. But Tyler Brown 6’3” 325lbs, Kareem Harden 6’5 330, Aki Ogunbiyi A&M transfer right tackle 6’4 345 sr.. What about this cat Zy Crisler, transfer from Illini 2 time big Big 10 honorable mention 6’7” 340lbs RS Sr. The depth is eye raising for Colorado. Major upgrade. E. I wouldn’t sleep on this WR group after all 4 starters from ‘24 are now in NFL camps. Joseph Williams is the name you’ll be hearing soon…Tulsa transfer American Conference freshman of the year. Arlington, Tx roots, I guarantee All conference if healthy…and another future NFL draft pick from CU at WR. Buffs back that up with the Miller duo…D’lon and Omarion ( my favorite of this crew to watch).
Quite a few new faces and it will take some games to gel…a weak schedule helps. But I’m actually very surprised by the Buffs Oline and depth/experience there, TE, and these WR’s that have tremendous upside.
With all that said, I think a 7 win season would be a success for this raw team that has little time together as a squad.

JJWoods - Do you think that talent will be ready and gelled in week 1 to upset Ga Tech at home in week 1? I know Coach Sanders will have them pumped up at home which is at election, but is that enough to sustain against a marginally talented but well coached Georgia Tech? I believe the current spread is GT -4.

The old wait and see….at this point no result would surprise me. Im still trying to figure the Jackets out. King is probably the reason I would have more confidence in GT. Eric Rivers WR will play on Sundays . The offense for these guys actually is their strength… no longer option runs in a cloud of dust. Tech’s LB’s should cause some problems for this Buffs OL needing some time. But good lord what an upgrade in size!

Salter has indicated that he wants to be more of a pocket passer this year, and less of a running QB. If he is sitting back there trying to pass the ball when running is the best option, he could find his playing time cut significantly. Juju will get a decent amount of snaps, and I don’t think you can keep that arm on the sidelines long. Sanders may coach from the press box this season as well due to lingering health issues, so that first game against Tech could be one in which a running QB is trying to become a pocket passer, switching QB’s in and out to keep both happy, and the face of the team is up in the press box. Tech will control the clock and put up points with their offense. Jackets had been my pick from day one, but I think we will add in some extra distractions at CU to further complicate things for the Buffs.
