Won't matter to most here but for any old school Canadian hockey fans that still use this forum this is the last time the voice of the greatest play by play man in the history of the sport can be heard. Old Bob Cole will call tonights game between the Leafs and Habs and I expect he will get a tad emotional towards the end being the old east coaster that he is. Way too many moments to choose from but ofcourse on January 4, 1976 even though the Flyers were public enemy to all other fans at the time being the bullies while also being the champs, for one evening everyone loved them as they were the only thing that stood between The Soviet Central Red Army Club and an undefeated tour of games against a handful of NHL teams. Entering the game the Red Army Club had defeated the Rangers and Bruins and tied the Canadiens 3-3 despite being outplayed by the Canadiens and badly outshot 38-13 the game ended in a 3-3 tie. The Flyers who at the time happened to be the last All Canadian hockey team to win the Cup were the only thing standing in the way of the Soviets. The Flyers did no disappoint, pummeling and dominating the Soviets from start to finish, outshooting them 49-11 and winning 4-1 but what happened in the first period of the game was that of hockey lore and Bob Cole had the call in what turned out to be an epic and historic call simply titled "They're Going Home"....What happened is below....

The lion and the tiger may be more powerful, but the wolf doesn't perform in the circus.

Definitely the best ever but I wish he had of retired a couple of years ago. It is tough to listen to him when he has no clue who many of the players are who touch the puck during a game.
You learn more from losing than winning. You learn how to keep going.

So many memories and games. The distinct play by play voice of Hockey Night in Canada in our homes for generations. He will be missed on air and I wish him well in his retirement.

Most overrated Canadian sports broadcaster.Great voice, can't argue there.Way over the hill and too old school. And the "oohh baby" just sounded so wrong for too many obvious reasons, yet people just put this guy and his one liners on a pedestal way too long.Habs are out and so is he, its about bloody time.
He was never the Habs announcer aside from the odd time the Leafs weren't playing on HNIC so that pretty much summizes your knowledge of the man but hey to each his own.

I never said he is the Habs announcer. BIG difference between Canadian and Canadien. Maybe you should go to your local library and pick up a book.
Don't try and say my comment was ambiguous after the fact because your English sucks.

You said the" Habs are out and so is he", which is fair to think you had the two connected seeing as you joined the two in your closing line, no?. I'm fully aware of the Canadiens franchise and how it is spelled which is displayed every time I have posted the Canadiens spelled as such as a play for over a decade here. My English is quite fine I assure you.
While running the man down you didn't bother to list for us the better Canadian hockey commentators since the 1970's. Please do share
