It’s the New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox meeting for a weekend set beginning tonight.
The Yankees have hit a recent solid stride. New York swept the Minnesota Twins and won eight of their last ten games. Things for the White Sox have been precisely what you’d expect them to be. Chicago has lost seven of its last ten games but will enter off a two-game winning streak against the Washington Nationals today.

My analysis
We reached the fun point you often arrive at when betting on baseball.
That point? One where the number is so high that the value is a must-take. The Chicago White Sox are among the three worst teams in baseball. The New York Yankees are easily among the top five best baseball teams in baseball. However, today, there is simply too much value in Chicago. My projections make this number +175, so I’m grabbing the +240 number as my best bet.
This handicap is most centered around Nestor Cortes, who takes the mound for New York today.
Cortes will likely see some positive regression soon, given the difference between his expected ERA and the actual one, but I’m not sure it will happen here. The lack of ground-balls is leading the list of issues for him this season. While on the season, Chicago has sat near the top of the league in ground-ball rate; recently, they’ve been making much better contact.
They’ll enter this game ranked No. 8 in solid contact over the last ten days. If they can keep that approach up, they can succeed against a pitcher in the bottom 36% of baseball in hard-hit rate.
On the other hand, Mike Clevinger will take the mound today for what is just his second start of the year. Each start has delivered uneven results. The first was a one-run outing against the Cleveland Guardians; the second was him getting run quickly from the game against the Tampa Bay Rays when allowed four earned. I like backing him in a bounce-back spot here.
I like doing it even more against a lineup that he’s had decent historical success against.
Give me the White Sox to pull the outright upset here. Do they win this game more often than not? Probably not. Do they win it more than the implied 31% of the time? Absolutely.
