My analysis
After netting 10 goals in his last 11 league games, Alexander Isak is making a case for being the most in-form striker in the Premier League. He’s fired Newcastle to the brink of European qualification, and his tally of 20 league goals trails only Erling Haaland and Cole Palmer.
I’m picking Isak to cash in again on Wednesday with an anytime goal against a patchwork Manchester United defense that hasn’t kept a clean sheet since March 9.
It’s easy to sympathize with ten Hag, given the injury crisis at the heart of his defense. The hosts were steadier at the back on Sunday with the makeshift pairing of Jonny Evans and Casemiro, but their 4-0 meltdown at Crystal Palace earlier this month is still a fresh wound.
Isak’s pace and movement feel like a matchup nightmare for the Red Devils, and the Swede’s hot streak includes doubles against Sheffield United, Tottenham, and West Ham. It also helps he’s Newcastle's top option for penalties.
Service for Isak shouldn’t be an issue at Old Trafford. Eddie Howe has an array of lightning wingers to unleash in the final third and impact subs to call on. Anthony Gordon, Jacob Murphy, and Harvey Barnes can all do damage on the counterattack, and I see that translating to at least one goal for Isak here.
