NEW YORK -- A.J. Pollock hit a two-run homer in the top of the 10th inning Monday night as the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the New York Mets 3-2 at Citi Field.

The Diamondbacks (68-57) snapped a three-game losing streak to move within a half-game of the idle Colorado Rockies for the first wild-card spot in the National League. Arizona's win ensured it would remain at least 2 1/2 games ahead of the Milwaukee Brewers in the race for the second wild card.

The Mets (54-69) have lost seven of eight to fall 15 games below .500 for the first time since Sept. 20, 2014.

With the score tied 1-1, Arizona pinch-hitter Gregor Blanco led off the 10th by drawing a walk against Erik Goeddel (0-1). David Peralta grounded out before Pollock homered well beyond the center field wall.

Jimmie Sherfy (1-0), the sixth Diamondbacks pitcher, earned his first major league win by tossing a perfect ninth. Fernando Rodney notched his 28th save despite giving up a homer to Michael Conforto leading off the bottom of the 10th.

J.D. Martinez had an RBI single in the fourth inning for the Diamondbacks while Daniel Descalso had two hits.

Yoenis Cespedes had three hits, including a run-scoring single in the sixth, for the Mets, who stranded 10 baserunners, including seven in scoring position, and had two runners thrown out on the bases.

Diamondbacks right-hander Taijuan Walker allowed seven hits and one walk while striking out four over 5 1/3 scoreless innings. Mets right-hander Robert Gsellman gave up one run on five hits and one walk while striking out three over 6 1/3 innings.
