How did Arkansas players not pick up that ball and run it in on the block?

NBA talking about downsizing... But which teams could be candidates to be downsized?
in General Discussion
I hope the Grizzlies and Thunder are contracted, though my opinion is only out of spite rather than anything else.

After Mark Streit broke his fuckin' shoulder on basically a lovetap into the boards and is now out for the year, and Kyle Okposo is out three months for his shoulder injury, I can't help but think the Islanders are STILL cursed. Nevermind what has happened since 1993 (which is when I became a fan at nine years old), they're still fucked right now, lead the league in injuries every year, didn't have a potential star player for a DECADE until Tavares was drafted, and STILL can't even get a stadium built.
As for the Mariners, well, my dick, all six and a half inches of it, by itself, can hit for higher average than anyone not named Ichiro. Besides Dustin Ackley, there's no blue chip hitters in the system either. Peashooters, as my dad calls them. I cheer for the shittiest teams. |

True Canadian hero.
My mom taught for years at the high school in Port Coquitlam that is named after him (arrived a couple years after he graduated, when it was known as Port Coquitlam Secondary School), which he attended. She remembers driving when the news came on the radio that the cancer had come back and had to pull over to the side of the road and cry. |

It's like every team trying to pump up a crowd with Guns N' Roses - their music is fine, but maybe try something different once in awhile? |

GEORGE: Why do I get pesto? Why do I think I'll like it? I keep trying to like it, like I have to like it. JERRY: Who said you have to like it? GEORGE: Everybody likes pesto. You walk into a restaurant, that's all you hear - pesto, pesto, pesto. JERRY: I don't like pesto. GEORGE: Where was pesto 10 years ago? |

If I like your cause I will look you up and donate when I feel like it Absolutely right. I'm a cashier at a grocery store. We have charity initiatives sometimes and are asked to encourage customers to donate. I don't play along. People can read the fucking sign and make the decision to donate on their own if they want. Sometimes there are charity coupon books for $2, but I'll only do that if there are more than $2 worth of coupons inside that the customer can use immediately, putting the customer ahead right away. Also, with regard to cashiers getting tipped, I don't expect a tip and no one needs to tip me. I was tipped $2 once for carrying bags out at Christmas, but I just put it in a charity jar. I have noticed at places like Subway, the debit machine will ask if I want to tip. I don't feel like I'm a cheap tipper in normal situations like restaurants, pizza delivery, etc., but what's next? Contrast North American tipping with Europe and it's a lot of tipping here. |

I saw the name of the author (Adrian Nieoczym) and thought it looked familiar. This guy taught a couple of my sociology classes in university several years ago.

Any advice out there from the covers financial gurus? Right now my money is sitting in the bank doing nothing! I will preface this by saying that I`m not an expert, but I`ve been reading about how pension plan strategies, managing investment risk, and asset allocation strategies lately in order to inform myself more about minimizing my risk while investing. I would recommend reading up on some of these topics - they might give you a good idea of how to diversify and minimize your risk with reasonable steadiness of returns. One of the principles of asset allocation is that you invest part of your portfolio in each of: cash and cash equivalents, fixed income (bonds), equities, real estate (including real estate trusts), and absolute return investments. The proportion of each of these five asset classes in your portfolio depends on your desired return, which determines the risk you are comfortable with. It is said that for a given level of desired return, there is an optimal, minimal level of long-term risk you should take that you won`t reach your return goal and steps should be taken to unnecessarily have greater risk in your portfolio. Proper diversification would help you manage inflation, currency, interest rate, market, and manager risk. I doubt that there is one particular mutual fund out there that would magically be steady every year. If you pick investment managers with the help of a financial advisor, I would make sure that they are independently audited and fund assets are held in trust separate from the manager (to avoid a Bernie Madoff situation). Another thing that seems to be recommended is to spread your investments around to different managers so you don`t have one person controlling the direction of your whole portfolio. |

When sports commentators (over)use the phrase "presence of mind" to describe a good play.
"He had THE PRESENCE OF MIND to know where his feet were as he caught the ball!" Yeah, he showed a modicum of common sense (what we'd call it in the real world) on the play, so we're all going to circle jerk to the replay.... |
