Tampa Bay Rays vs Texas Rangers Box Score on Sep 11, 2019

Rougned Odor hit a three-run homer in the seventh inning to give the Texas Rangers the lead for good in a 10-9 win against the Tampa Bay Rays in the second game of their three-game series on Wednesday night in Arlington, Texas.

Odor fouled off three two-strike pitches before pulling his 25th homer of the season inside the right-field foul pole off reliever Nick Anderson, who had come in for Colin Poche (4-5), who pitched 2/3 of an inning and gave up two runs on one hit with a walk and a strikeout.

Nick Solak had two hits and two runs, and Elvis Andrus also had two hits for the Rangers, who have won five of six.

Ariel Jurado started on the mound for the Rangers (73-74), but was gone after allowing six runs and six hits in 1 2/3 innings.

Ian Gibaut, who was traded from Tampa Bay to the Rangers on July 28, threw two shutout innings to earn his first major league victory in his seventh appearance. Jose Leclerc pitched the ninth for his 12th save.

Ji-Man Choi homered twice and drove in four runs, and Joey Wendle had two hits and two runs for the Rays (87-60), who had won six straight and 11 of 12.

The Rays still own the top spot in the AL wild-card race, but the Oakland A's closed within a half game and the Indians are a game back.

Andrew Kittredge was the opener for the Rays and he did not retire any of the first three batters he faced before he was replaced. Austin Pruitt, Oliver Drake and Chaz Roe combined for 5 1/3 shutout innings.

The Rangers and Rays needed 55 minutes to play the first inning and were tied 7-7 after two.

The Rays scored twice in the first on an RBI double by Tommy Pham, and a run-scoring single by Matt Duffy, but the Rangers came back with seven in their half of the first to move ahead 7-2.

Guillermo Heredia, Willy Adames and Wendle hit consecutive doubles to start the second inning for the Rays and cut the lead to 7-4. Yohander Mendez replaced Jurado with two outs and two on base and surrendered the three-run homer to Choi to tie the score at 7-7.
