Best NHL parlay picks for Thursday

NHL parlay pick

Andrei Svechnikov Over 2.5 shots

Sebastian Aho Over 0.5 assists

Brock Boeser Under 0.5 points

Carolina Hurricanes winger Andrei Svechnikov recording three or more shots is my favorite NHL player prop tonight. His shot volume skyrockets on home ice, and the New York Rangers struggle in the 5-on-5 possession game on the highway.

Svechnikov has averaged 4.0 shots and 8.6 attempts per home game during the playoffs compared to pedestrian 1.4 and 4.6 marks on the highway, and N.Y. has been caved in at 5-on-5 with a 42.1 Corsi For percentage across four road games this postseason.

Of course, Svechnikov also paces the Hurricanes in shots (five) and attempts (11) with the man advantage during the playoffs, and finally, it’s notable there's been line movement to the Over 2.5 shots for Svechnikov at a number of sportsbooks.

Hurricanes No. 1 center Sebastian Aho registered a single assist through five Round 1 games before racking up six helpers across the first three games in Round 2 against New York. He’s now gone consecutive contests without marking the assists column despite remaining in an ideal setup role centering Jake Guentzel and Andrei Svechnikov.

Aho paced the Hurricanes in assists (53) and assists per 60 minutes (2.08) during the regular season, and he’s been on the ice for a rock-solid 4.44 expected goals per 60 during the playoffs. Add Aho’s go-to role on the No. 1 power-play unit, and his plus-money odds are a nice boost for this parlay.

The final leg of this parlay is banking on a splash of statistical correction kicking in for Vancouver Canucks scorching-hot scorer Brock Boeser. He’s marked the scoresheet in eight of 10 playoff games for 3.5 points per 60 minutes and an unsustainably high 28.0 shooting percentage.

Boeser posted respective 2.91 and 19.6% marks during the regular season, which were both already way above his 2.45 points per 60 and 12.5 SH% across 201 games over the previous three seasons.

Fading Boeser gives this parlay long odds, and it’s also worth highlighting the edge in the numbers provided by shopping for the best price. This parlay is trading at just +687 through bet365, so there’s a healthy positive expected value of 10% attached to the +764 DraftKings odds.

Today's NHL same-game parlay picks

Our betting experts have scoured through today's NHL odds to find your best SGP bets for each game on Thursday's playoff slate:

Rangers vs. Hurricanes same-game parlay (SGP)

Andrei Svechnikov 3+ shots

Martin Necas 3+ shots

Seth Jarvis 2+ shots

Svechnikov isn’t the only Hurricane I expect to be taking advantage of the poor possession game of the Rangers. Carolina wingers Martin Necas and Seth Jarvis are both active shooters and receive consistent power-play time.

Necas is second in attempts (65) for the Canes in the playoffs after pacing the club in shots (230) and ranking second in attempts (437) during the regular season. He’s only converted 33.8% of his attempts into shots through 10 playoff games after converting at a 55.2% rate during the regular season. While shot blocking goes way up the playoffs, the pendulum has swung too far in this case.

Jarvis has been a far more consistent game-to-game shooter, and he’s registered two or more shots in five consecutive contests and eight of 10 during the playoffs.

All three of these Carolina wingers also skate on different lines at even strength, so they won’t steal shooting opportunities from one another. Finally, there is also an edge in the available odds with FanDuel pricing this same-game parlay at +300. The difference attaches a positive expected value of 5% to the +320 bet365 price.

Oilers vs. Canucks same-game parlay (SGP)

Zach Hyman anytime goalscorer

First period Over 0.5 goals

Canucks +1.5

Hyman has been held scoreless in his last three and has taken 15 shots in that same timeframe. From a 50-goal scorer with an 18.6 shooting percentage, it's a matter of if not when he buries his 10th of the postseason.

There have been two or more goals scored in the opening frame in three of four games this series, with the last outing being the only exception. With that said, the Oilers did find the back of the net, and I expect more early scoring tonight. I'm taking the safer approach at 0.5 but don't mind playing 1.5 if you're looking for a bigger payout.

Each game so far has been decided by one, and I don't see that changing tonight, regardless of who wins. The Vancouver Canucks are playing Edmonton hard, and they have more than enough firepower to keep up with their West Coast foe.
