Canucks vs Oilers Prediction, Picks, and Odds for Tonight’s NHL Playoff Game

The Canucks have an opportunity to go up huge against the Oilers with a Game 4 win tonight. Edmonton entered the series as a massive favorite but things haven't gone so well. Our betting picks like the value with Vancouver keeping its run going.

The Vancouver Canucks snatched home-ice advantage with a Game 3 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday night.

My Canucks vs. Oilers predictions expect another strong showing from the visitors this evening. Oddsmakers are banking on Edmonton’s resiliency, though, tabbing the Oil as -208 moneyline favorites in the NHL odds.

It’s a must-watch Game 4 from Rogers Place in Edmonton. Read below for my free NHL picks on Tuesday, May 14.

My analysis

The Edmonton Oilers have opened the scoring twice in this series and have taken the L both times.

The Vancouver Canucks responded to an Oilers goal just over five minutes into Game 3 by potting three straight to end the first period, a lead they would never relinquish in an eventual 4-3 victory.

After scoring two or fewer goals in four of their games against the Predators in Round 1, Vancouver has scored at least three goals in every game vs. Edmonton. However, they are still focusing on quality over quantity. Vancouver mustered just 18 shots in Game 3, the second time in this series it’s fired less than 20 shots on net.

The Canucks have been helped by a power play that has kept pace with the Oilers, going 3-for-6 across the last two games after failing to score in three tries in Game 1.

Meanwhile, the Oilers' reliance on a top-heavy offensive roster started to show in Sunday’s loss as Connor McDavid was held off the scoresheet for the first time in these playoffs. Besides McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, Zach Hyman, Evan Bouchard, and Mattias Ekholm have accounted for 10 of the 11 goals against the Canucks in this series.

Evander Kane, who had 24 goals in the regular season, has yet to tally against Vancouver. Warren Foegele, who also topped 20 goals in the regular season, has zero points through three games, while Ryan Nugent-Hopkins has just a single goal in the postseason.

If not for a Vancouver own goal in overtime in Game 2, the Canucks could very well have won seven straight against the Oilers this season. The Canucks are 4-1 on the road in these playoffs and went 5-0 as the betting underdog against the Oilers this season.

Checking in as the road dog again, look for the Canucks to take a stranglehold of this one as the Oilers' secondary scoring comes up short.

Canucks vs Oilers same-game parlay (SGP)

Canucks moneyline

Over 5.5

Connor McDavid anytime goal

Taking the total is a natural add-on to a single-game parlay. We’ve dropped it down to 5.5 just in case, but these teams have scored at least seven goals in each game in this series.

Going back to the regular season, these teams have struck for at least six combined goals in six of seven matchups this year. The Over has a 6-2-2 record in the last 10 matchups.

And while we’re taking the Canucks to win, that doesn’t mean McDavid will come up empty again. McDavid has consistently worn out Vancouver’s defense, picking up points in 18 of his last 20 games against the Canucks, 16 of which were goals.
