1) Ummm, does this situation not seem similiar to ANYONE? Everyone was on Venus against little sis for these same reasons in Wimbledon, "Oh man, Serena doesn't look fit" "Serena looks injured" "Serena can't keep up". And then Serena played some of her best tennis in that final and won easily.
2) Doubles really isn't that tiring....people think she's killing herself by playing all this doubles, but doubles is not nearly as much movement as singles and they really aren't having to work that hard tonight and Serena looks fine to me.
3) Henin has struggled against powerful hitters, lost to Kimmy coming in, was in a very tight match against Dementieva (but of course, Dementieva is a great player and she would cause anyone great trouble) and she surprisingly struggled against Kleyblanova and even had a bit of a tough time with Petrova when Petrova really didn't look that good.
4) Take out what you saw from both of them last round....do you really think Henin would look this appealing to you? This is a very common mistake, people putting too much weight on the last round, Serena played on back to back days against a very good player that has proven she can compete with both Williams sisters. She didn't look good, she didn't dominate, but she won and that's all she needed to do. Everyone assumes she would have lost in the third, but she dominated the moment in both tiebreaks, why would you assume she had nothing left in the tank? (oh and she and her sister won a doubles match against two very good doubles players later that very same night)
Henin - she looked dominant, playing against an opponent that she matches up with perfectly, no serve, no real power of any kind, just a very defensive player that counts on her opponent to make errors to keep her in the game. Playing like that against henin isn't going to work and she just got more and more defensive throughout the match. Of course she got dominated playing like that, are you guys expecting Serena to play the same way?
If they had played a couple rounds ago when Henin struggled and Serena looked great, would you still be on the same side?
Just some food for thought, I'll be trusting the player with a terrific record in finals that has been in this spot year after year and not the player in her second tournament back after a full year and a half off. Yes Henin is a fantastic player and she's got a lot of slams as well and she definitely has a fair shot in this match as well, but do you really think she's proven more in this "second career" than Serena has already? I'd be interested in hearing if Henin backers have half as many reasons.....or maybe you all just expect her to retire in the middle of this finals again if she's losing so you get a no action
