Boring personality. No emotion whatsoever. Like a cyborg out there playing tennis.
Much, much more than that though....the guy DOESNT EVEN TRY in non-majors. Look at his results this year in non major events. The dude is a flake and doesnt care. I said this just before the French began. To watch out for him to "magically" find his form after screwing around for months since the Aussie. Now I didnt think he'd win the event but it just proves the point even further about what kind of guy he is. Ask his (ex) wife. None of the other top players pull the BS he pulls in the non-major events.
For that, I cant root for the guy. A true professional puts his hard hat on every time he steps on the court. He doesnt do that. He's the only one of the top men's players who conducts himself in this manner.

We need more robots. Guy beats a clearly deserving (and emotional) Djokovic (also World No.1) and he doesn't fall to the ground like a girl and start crying.
He holds in his emotions like a man is supposed to, which is respectful towards Djoker.

We need more robots? You know what we need, less morons like you. WTF are you even talking about? Who said anything about crying?
I am talking about engaging the fans. Showing some fire. He displays NONE of that.
And you conveniently ignore his PATHETIC (lack of) efforts in all non-major events. Does the sport need more of that too? Maybe Murray and Djokovic and Federer should mimic Stan in that way too, huh?
We need more robots. Hahaha. Yeah because those are sooo interesting. This board has devolved to a pile of sh*t.

He's won two non-major titles already this year!? Took out Rafa (on clay) in Rome. And, is on pace to have best season of his career.
Why are you comparing him to Djokovic and Federer and Murray?!?!
You've been spoiled by a rare era in tennis (dominated by 4 men). Take a look back 15 years. Would you have ripped into guys like Kuerten, Safin, Roddick, Hewitt, Kafelnikov because they didn't dominate year round, but managed to steal a couple majors?

He beat Bedene in a crap event win a tourney early in the year. He lost in rd 1 or 2 of 6 of the last 7 events between the Aussie and French. Think about that, Rd 1 or 2 in six of seven events. Thats absolutely awful and speaks to lack of effort. Stakovsky, Haase, Mannarino, Delbonis. He wasnt exactly losing to good players either. You insult everyones intelligence if you truly believe he loses these matches if he gives a crap.

Are you being serious? The guy just outplayed the favourite and because he you think he didnt how emotion or doesnt try so hard in lesser tournamnets then he is hard to like?
Save your criticism for Murray. He is thoroughly unlikeable whose attitude stinks, but tan showed class at the end and in fact throughout the tournament.

Agree 100% Stan was a class act throughout.....no emotion? Want to count how many times he clenched his fist after making a big shot....Stan deserved to win....he clearly OVERPOWERED his opponents...obviously he likes to win when it counts. His backhand is awesome....

He played a ton of tennis early in the year. He won in Chennai- made the Semi's at the AO and then won in Rotterdam. Is hard to travel and play that much and not be impacted. Keep in mind that Stan probably doesn't have the same wealth advantages of Federer-Nadal -Djokovic and Murray.
Stan did plenty of fist pumps in the final. Showing emotion is a double edged sword. First of all it uses energy...and second it gives your opponent an idea of what you are feeling or excess celebrations can motivate your opponent.
Federer was once a very emotional player... he had tantrums and outbursts on court frequently. When he learned to harness his emotions is when his game really took off.

Djoker Fed Murray Wawa Berdych Nish Raonic Ferrer Nadal Tsonga
They have an accumulated total of 8 losses to players outside the top 50. Wawa owns 3 of those losses. The point there is, it's a rare anomaly for someone in the top 10 to lose to someone outside the top 50. Nadal's loss to Berrer was his first match back, Ferrer lost to Andujar who beat 4 top 30 players in that tourny, Murray had his hicup against Coric and Tsonga was still on his comeback when he lost his match.
But what's the deal with Wawa? It's human to lose, but a top ten player just doesn't do it against lower grade players except on very rare occasions.
No one doubts he was in control in the final. He played to win. Right from the get go. Djoker in my opinion was lucky to win that first set. But how does the guy that obliterated djoker from the back court get spilled by all those 3rd teir players?
I think that's the real point rzag is making, how do you back him? He doesn't play like a champ. He did at Roland Garros, but out side the majors do you bet on Guido Pella and Blaz Rola?

Couldn't agree more. All I take from his post is sour grapes. Oh, but of course he hedged big on Stan and won money even though he was so confident and Stan shows no emotion.....

Losses since beginning of 2013 with a line -1000 or better
Djokovic (4)
Federer (4)
Nadal (6)
Murray (1)
Wawa (3)
Rankings mean nothing
There's tennis, and then there's betting. The ML is nothing in tennis, not the other way around.
The rankings are determined by how many points you've accumulated over a season which are acquired by wins, (yea... I know you know this)
The ML is designed to get bettors action. The ML is affected by injury, public opinion, bettors perception a short term form forcast. You wont see many -1000 lines on Wawa because he doesn't cover the -1000 ML enough. He losses too much! Fed will have lots and Djoker will have lots because most of their matches are -1000 and up lines.
Come on Sparks, you know better than that. If the rankings meant nothing, then what?... an 80th ranked player would beat a top ten player as often as top ten players beat 80-90.
You really think Wawa is a reliable performer? "Hard to back" is an accurate assessment of Wawa compared to anyone else in the top 10.

Yea but.. Wawa is a clay court and hard court player... that's where he's losing these matches. Roddick losing on hard court and Grass to lower tier players is the equivalent anomaly.
Sure... The rankings can be deceiving.... because a player has been out or injured and when they come back they might have been a top ten player and their rank is 110th. Okay fine... in that case the ranking means squat. But that is a top tier player.
Wawa losing to the players he has been on Hard and Clay in the midst of a season that he makes the Semi finals of one slam and wins the next. He's losing to lower tier players... That's not a guy slumping... Fed in /13... he was in a slump... Nadal this year... That's a guy in a slump... Wawa is WTF. Show me an elite comparison ever. Roddick never did well on Clay... Samprass the same just as Muster was the opposite.
Where has a guy mid season gone from champ to chump repeatedly? If there is one... he was undoubtedly not a reliable player in the history books.

I should also mention that I'm merely saying he's unreliable and I agree with rzag that he's a tough guy to back. He doesn't play like a champ in all his matches is what I see. He makes a lot of UFE and he's inconsistant in his performance. He was lucky in the semis that Tsonga played worse than him. That match could have very easily gone the other way.

This board has devolved even more than I thought. If you can't see the pathetic lack of effort that Wawa has displayed this season when it's not a major then you need a stronger pair of contacts. The guy has lost in rd 1 or 2 of 6 of the last 7 events! To guys he would faceplant in majors. Get your head out of the sand. Calling me a worthless poster yet arguing against facts is a curious thing. Perhaps look in the mirror for worthlessness. Sparty is too busy trying to convince everyone he's the tennis czar here so I expect such nonsense from him. Keep fighting the good fight. Keep backing Stan in minors against guys he would destroy in majors. Let me know how it works out for you.

The REAL point here is Wawa is good enough to beat the best at majors. Yet not RELIABLE enough for the oddsmakers to make a super large favorite in minors events BECAUSE HE CONSISTENTLY tanks against guys like Haase, Delbonis, Stakovsky, Mannarino. Curious, no? You are making my point even further when posting numbers like the above. You can't lose as a -1000+ favorite against scrubs if the linesmakers don't trust you enough in these events!

Stan was 25-4 in 2013 versus players outside the top 50. Losing to Mahut and Hewitt on grass....Robredo on clay and Vasselin indoors. Mahut and Hewitt are grass experts...Robredo is a clay expert and Vasselin loves indoor hards. None of those are that far fetched honestly.
In 2014 Stan was 17-4 He lost to Thiem on clay...Golubev & Kukush indoors and Ito on hards. Ito match was played in Japan....Thiem is a young gun with tons of talent. Certainly the Golubev match was bad(Davis Cup pressure). But Kukush isn't a bad indoor player either.
2015 He is 11-3 thus far. Lost to Del Bonis on clay...Stak on indoor hards and Haase He played a lot of tennis early in the year...did it catch up with him? Del Bonis is not a bad clay player. And both Stak and Haase are capable with their serves. Keep in mind that Stak and Del Bonis both have beaten Federer
All players play harder in majors ....ALL OF THEM
But this idea that he doesn't try and because he isn't emotional he is boring is just the level of stupidity I would expect from Rzagza.
Has this guy ever made a claim that didn't blow up in his face?
Sorry your Novak future lost ...take it like a man

You can spin numbers any way you want. I am talking about this year. He didn't get out of Rd1 or 2 in 6 of last 7 events yet can summon the form to be the best in the world when the chips are down. And I love how keep transitioning from arguments. First it was rankings don't matter - odds do. Then when you realize he is too flaky to make a massive favorite in minors events you turn to the record vs top 50 arguments which you just said don't matter. None of the guys in the top 10 have as many consistent early exits in minors events as he does this yr. Period. End of discussion. No way around it. Sure Federer has an odd bad loss once in a very blue moon. Same with Murray. Hell even Berdych is more consistent. Nish also. Djoker we don't have to mention. Wawa has a string of these WTF losses in half a season.

Do you understand what style of play Stan uses? Stan is a high risk and high reward player. This leave him vulnerable to upsets and bad patches... and also gives him a chance to win majors. Is the equivalent to a HR hitter who strikes out a lot.
Stan is not a great returner like the top tier guys. He is more reliant on his serve and because of his high risk game he can break himself at times.
Am sorry but his upsets are more about his style of game than effort.

Federrer has 3 losses agianst the 50 and lower since 2010... I didn't go back any further. 2 of those people were Tommy Haas and Lleton Hewit. That leaves Del Bonis and when we lost to Del Bonis (And Stahkoviski) in that same year he won garbage. He was in a slump. It's not likehe lost to Del bonis in the 2nd round of one toury, Stak the next in the 2nd round, then MAnnirino and then Bwamo... GS Title.
Murray has lost twice against the 50 and Lower since 2012. This year against Coric and in 2012 against Jancowicz.
Djoker...Lost to MAlisse in 2010... 100% since then
Nadal Has a handful of losses in the last 6 monthst but how reliable is he right? Not very...
Maybe you want to say, okay... he gets more losses then the best tennis players, but that's the point. Those are the only other GS winners that are active... (cept Hewitt I guess.)
Raonic Has 1 loss this year and 2 the previous, Nish had 2 in 2014, none this year. You cant go back further because they weren't top ten players then.
When Fed lost to Stakovisky, Stakohovsky was in better form than he is now. Not to mention it was Rogers big slump year. When Fed lost to Del Bonis, it was in the Semi Finals where Del Bonis was beating everyone. It's not like he lost in the opening round of the tourny to a guy who got ousted next. Not like He was winning grand slams when it happened. They we're rare circumstances.
Stan has 11 losses to clowns in the last 3 years. Add every other GS winners losses over the last 5 years and it wont equal that. He has more losses than all of them combined.

I don't know about the emotions thing... Just because you don't show emotions doesn't mean you don't feel them. Stan might be very emotionally driven he just controls them
But he makes a lot of errors and maybe it is his agressive play that makes him vulnerable to a loss against a lesser foe. Regardless of why, how do you bet him comfortably when he's unreliable?

Sure his game is boom or bust. Yet it doesn't bust in majors. When he's focused. Berdych plays a similar game. Even Raonic. Yet their game doesn't blow up on them consistently early in minors events. It's all about focus and attention to detail.
