8.59 ERA and 1.77 WHIP in his last 3 starts, 9 runs in 3.1 IP in his only other start against Detroit this year, and now he has 7 Ks in 5.1 shutout innings? What gives?

Pitt
Probably my favorite play for today as of now. Duke is 2.64/1.07 at home, and the Cubs bat .209 on the road against lefties. Wouldn't be surprised if the Cubs only scored one or two runs.

That's the kind of explanation I was looking for, thank you. You know what they say though-- bad hitting will beat bad pitching. And you can't get much worse than Pavano the past few games, plus Floyd has been absolutely lights out. Cleveland's bullpen has also been pretty bad lately, so I'm thinking this might still be worth a 1 unit play.

This one seems too good to be true, which means I'm almost certainly missing something. Pavano has been horrendous his last three starts, surrendering 23 runs ("only" 18 earned) in 13.1 IP and posting a 12.15 ERA and 2.55 WHIP. Also, he has generally done poorly at home this year (7.13/1.61). Gavin Floyd, on the other hand, has a 1.60 ERA and 0.91 WHIP in his last 7 starts. Also, it's not as if the White Sox are a bad road team-- they're only 1 game under .500 on the road this year, and the Indians are just a terrible team, especially in recent weeks, as they're 2-11 in their last 13 games overall. And yet despite all this, this game opened at nearly even money. The only things I can think of that would contribute to this are Pavano's 2-0 record against Chicago this year, including one CG shutout, and Gavin Floyd's 6.86/1.55 road stats, which are mostly due to three bad starts in a row in early May (without those starts he is a decent 4.00/1.26 on the road). Still, that doesn't seem enough to me to warrant a near even line. Can anybody explain this to me?

Does anybody know of a place online to find stats on batters' performance sorted by pitch type, i.e. their BA or SLG on fastballs, curveballs, changeups, etc.? Any help is appreciated.

I have been working on a program that needs to pull odds from Pinnacle. It had been working great for the past couple weeks and then all of a sudden this morning I found that my IP address had been banned from their site. I'm running Mac OS X 10.5.7 and the program is written in Java. Does anybody know of a way around this? FWIW, the program updates ever 5 seconds.

Where do you find teams' records against RHP or LHP?

newrebel-- The reason that the Storm goes a lot slower for Pinnacle is that the Storm's browser is very slow at handling JavaScript, which Pinny probably uses. The next software update should address this, but for now it is very slow at processing scripts.

With Burnett facing the Jays for the first time today, does anybody know of any trends about how pitchers fare in their first starts against their old teams?

Personal Plays:
Brewers +165 @ Phillies (1u to win 1.65u) Brewers Team Total Over 4 (1.10u to win 1u) Hamels doesn't deserve to be laying this price to anybody right now the way he's pitching. He going to have to earn that by pitching the way he did last year before I'll be willing to back him. The Brewers' bats haven't been hitting so well recently, which is why the TT isn't a 2 unit play, but Hamels is giving up a .455 BAA and 2.68 WHIP to right-handed batters this year, and aside from Prince Fielder, the Brewers' entire starting lineup today bats righty. Add in the fact that the Phillies' bullpen has posted a 5.64 ERA this year, and this could very well be the game that Milwaukee breaks out of their offensive slump. |
