Nobody seems to like Miami at all, tomorrow. Disrespected in the national media. Disrespected in Vegas. Disrespected everywhere.
Personally, I like the spot for Miami now that everyone has taken all the pressure off my Canes. Somehow, in a rivalry game between two undefeated teams in November, the Canes have been given a freeroll on Saturday. They have absolutely nothing to lose, and everything to gain. And you're giving them more than three touchdowns? And nobody is taking it? How often is everyone- Vegas, national media, public bettors - correct on a game?

Miami -12 @ USF.
Really? Line should be 20+ points. USF has been blown out by McNeese State, beaten by FAU, and their best performance was a two touchdown loss to Michigan State. Miami may not have played anyone worth a damn, but FAU covered that line against USF.

I have no idea if we will win or not. Our team is completely unpredictable. Talented, but young.
That being said-- NCState has lost it's ACC opener in all but one of Tom O'Brien's years there. NCState is a pathetic 9-17 straight up on the road under Tom O'Brien. Why you would put money on either of these teams today is beyond me.

I think it's funny that guys like Handicapper have to flood Boom's thread with posts in order to get attention. They know if they started their own thread, it would have 10 views and no responses. Boom, don't even bother responding. You can't win an argument when the other side is delusional.
I actually like Clemson now more without Sammy.

Manuel can't throw a corner route to save his life. Missed two wide open touchdowns yesterday that were easy throws against an undersized WF defense.
And everything Thompson did was to the edge/corner. I'm not taking away from the FSU victory yesterday- they dominated an inferior team which is what you're supposed to do as a very good team. But there are some warning signs there that could be difference makers against a team with comparable size and speed. Luckily for FSU, there are not too many of them on the schedule this year. Looks like just Clemson and Florida (from a defensive perspective) based on early returns. At worst, ten wins this season for FSU.

I'll probably be labeled as a hater because of my Cane allegiances, but that was the most uninspiring FSU performance. I have no idea if Clemson can slow FSU down and win this weekend, but this is solely about FSU as a football team. If FSU does not get to the edge, they cannot run on you. WF's undersized DL were getting a push on the FSU OL all day long. I was not surprised by the final result- and I've had FSU in my top 5 all year long, but if you go back and watch this one on again, you'll see some major question marks in terms of the FSU offense.
The defense? Completely different story. That FSU defense will keep them in any game against anyone in the country this year- especially the ACC. I haven't checked this week's lines, but if your'e giving me double digits, I'm taking Clemson. Great bounce back week, Boom. Let's keep making money.

I tried to warn you last week about my Canes, Boom. You weren't wrong about Miami finally getting some athletes back in the program, but you didn't follow your own logic with the Canes that you relied on with Oklahoma State. Young teams show their true colors on the road, and with the Canes being so young all over the field, asking them to go on the road and perform two weeks in a row is a lot to ask. Going to be many ups and downs for this Canes team this year, but come 2013, there will be tons of value.
As much as it pains me to say it, I've been waiting on the FSU-Wake Forest game all summer. I do believe this FSU team is the real deal, and undoubtedly the coaching staff has hammered it home to them over and over what happened last year. They will be champing at the bit to play this one, especially after only getting to play two quarters last week. And while Clemson is a look-ahead, Wake is also coming off a huge victory against UNC. |

Train-- at this point, if you can only get Zona +10.5, you think it's best to wait until closer to Saturday and hope the public comes back on Oklahoma State? Or would you just lock in Zona now?

Somewhat surprised you're taking my Canes two weeks in a row. KState is notorious for playing opossum against the lesser teams, and no designed QB Klein runs in the first half last week suggests they haven't changed. Meanwhile, BC had no problems moving the ball on Miami, racking up 500+ yards of offense. If they could convert redzone trips into touchdowns, Miami would have given up 40+. I'd expect KState to have more success than Boston College. Tougher environment to play in as well compared to BC.
I'm hopeful we get a victory here, but Canes are still awfully young and looked horrendous on defense. Good luck.

Jesus christ. As a Miami alum, you guys are delusional. Obviously I hope we win all of our games, but Vegas builds casinos based on homer predictions like 9 wins.

Why shouldn't Morris be the starter?

Boston College missing starting TE Cantale for a few weeks due to surgery on broken foot. Also missing starting CB Louis-Jean due to foot injury.
Miami will be missing reserve LB Raphael Kirby

Love your work, but curious how much in camp injuries/suspensions,etc effect your numbers. For instance, Boston College has lost preseason all ACC TE Chris Pantale while Miami has lost Ray Ray Armstrong to transfer.

Al Groh was the coach at UVA but is now the DC at GT. I'm sure jimmy meant Jim Grobe instead.

Not so fast on the Gators, Boom. This week's game against Vandy is a "must win" for the Gators to become bowl eligible. Vandy has been knocking on the door, and the Gators could be prime for a letdown here: 1220pm kickoff, lost 4 in a row- including last week to a rival, Vandy pissed off about blowing a win against a top 10 team, etc..
If the Gators don't win this one, they're in serious danger of not making a bowl: @south carolina, furman, Florida State to finish.

Bodio,
If you were able to find an over 8.5 line in the AZ/MIL game, would you play it?

Yeah, it was a big deal at the time, obviously, but once the suspensions were announced, it was clear the story was dramatized. Only players worth a damn that were suspended more than the opener were Ray Ray Armstrong (returns this week) and Oliver Vernon (returns for GT).
Miami's defense has just been abysmal against the run, and particularly on 3rd down, allowing opponents to convert at an alarming rate. They've been bailed out by holding teams to FGs inside the redzone, but VT is too strong with the run game, IMO, to not finish off drives.

I'm with you on the side in the VT-Miami game, but Miami's struggles have nothing to do with "issues going on with the program." Miami can't stop the run (200 to Bethune Cookman!, 200 to Kansas State, 150+ to Ohio State and Maryland). That's right up VT's alley, and coming off a loss, I expect it to continue on Saturday.
