So how is this about Obama?
If only Rand Paul was President.
If only Rand Paul was President.
Sure he is qualified for criticism on many of his foreign policies. To every foreign policy decision, there is a domino effect and they are all interrelated because of the subsequent effect on a multitude of other areas.
Among the questions, however, are what decisions led to this situation? That is much more complex. I would argue that essentially none did. Obama certainly didn't either pander nor act tough with Putin. He was more or less, vanilla. Would a shift in that have changed things? Its hard to see how.
More importantly is what can be done in response. Military action is not even a thought, sanctions only mean something if others join and it sounds like so many countries don't really care. Of course Putin knows this.
This becomes my issue with many of the left and right wing extremists here, and in general. I respect when they analyze a specific situation and the policy and what could have been done and what should be done.
Here, Obama is criticized for not doing enough, for doing too much, for leading an empty thread, not backed by other countries, for not leading, etc.
I would love to have an intelligent debate on the subject but too many simply use any situation as a means to attack a person they don't like or agree with rather than analyze.

Well, let's see if you can articulate what our policy should have and should be.
The problem is your continuous anti-Obama positions have painted you into a corner. You have (rightfully) criticized him for intervention and now, it appears, criticizing him for the lack thereof.

Criticizing a leader is certainly appropriate. Criticizing him simply because one disagrees with him in a general sense is what I am referring to.
Let's presume that the 3 things you stated above are all true in the sense that they are a negative for foreign policy. Does it really matter? What would have needed to be done differently for Putin to stay out of the Ukraine? He knows we will not reach militarily.
Russia invaded Afghan when Carter was President and remained there throughout Reagan's tough talk. It didn't really matter. This has very little difference.
As an aside, I disagree with the poster above me and with your assessment. Terrorists are the biggest threat to us, not Russia. Russia's involvement in the Ukraine is unfortunate and sad for the Ukrainian people and in the end, does not directly impact the US or our safety.

So you're saying that you support the idea of doing nothing and saying nothing about the situation?
Are you saying you disagree with politicans (like Rand Paul) who are critical of Obama for not doing enough.
Let's see if you can articulate an answer. My guess is you won't or it won't be more than a few words (like your answer above). That way you can continue to be critical of Obama no matter what path he chooses.
